Stars of
A Quiet Place and real-life couple John Krasinski and Emily Blunt recently sat down with
Yahoo! Movies and admitted that they glad they weren’t in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Blunt and Krasinski were up for the roles of Black Widow and Captain America respectively, early on after the MCU's initial conception.
Whilst promoting their first film together, Krasinski and Blunt were asked if they ever wish that they had become part of the MCU family. Here's what they said:
Emily Blunt: I don’t think I would have been able to do a lot of projects that I’ve loved doing. I think that was a nerve-wracking prospect for me to not be able to choose, and the choices I have are often all I have, so you can’t really plan for anything else. You can’t predict what’s going to happen, what’s going to catch fire and what’s not, so if I make the choice for me, and not because I’m contracted I think that’s an exciting prospect.
John Krasinski: That’s really interesting. I think A Quiet Place definitely wouldn’t exist. There are benefits, and Chris Evans seems to be having a wonderful time. I love Chris, I’ve been a friend of his for a while. Those movies are so much fun and I love watching them, I tell him I’m first in line to see his new movies. It’s that zen thing of let life take you where it may and I never would have been here if I had gotten Captain America. I never thought about that, you just broke my brain.
While the actors of the MCU are certainly not barred from starring in non-MCU films, it’s true that their time is limited. Krasinski and Blunt haven’t made a ton of movies, but they’ve both been able to pursue various projects - with the former branching out into directing and writing - and focus more on their relationship. Of course, there’s nothing to prevent them from joining the MCU in the future.
For years, there were rumors that Blunt was in talks to play Captain Marvel., though she denies that Marvel contacted her about the role. As for Krasinski, he recently said he’d be eager to play Reed Richards in the MCU’s Fantastic Four reboot, sometime down the line. Perhaps we could see both as Reed and Sue Richards in the future, as they'd certainly have the chemistry down pat.
What do you think about the actors' comments? Would you like to see both or either take on a future role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
