Does the SYFY channel have a hit on their hands? My impressions after watching the first episode. (Spoiler Free)

A Vampire, a Werewolf and a Ghost all living under one roof trying to be everything that they mostly aren’t..human.

I just finished watching the premiere of the U.S. version of Being Human and I was pleasantly surprised, actually I was hooked from the opening sequence. I really didn’t think that the network that has brought us the award winning masterpiece, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus and the upcoming Mega Python vs. Gatoroid (winner of next years’ Best Picture Oscar) would deliver a high quality show….I was wrong.

As far as original programming, the SYFY network does have some decent shows. Eureka is fun and entertaining and I know that many people enjoyed Battlestar Galactica but if you aren’t a huge Science Fiction type fan, then most of the time you are left watching one of the hundreds of different Ghost Hunter shows or reruns of beloved classics or failed one season shows. As a horror movie fan I was intrigued when I heard Being Human was being adapted for American television but would it hold up to my expectations?

Yes….I’m a fan of character development and without it you tend to not care as much if something happens to one of the main characters, this along with an original premise is hard to come by these days, especially in Comic Books and Horror. Being a huge fan of Dexter, a lot of shows aren’t given as much of a chance by me due to boring plot lines, predictable stories and bad acting and even though Being Human is only one episode down, I really think it’s going to be something to watch every week. The acting was a LOT better than I thought it was going to be, the dialogue wasn’t generic or over the top and the special effects were very promising. If the original British version is anything like this then I will have to pay for someone over there to mail me a copy!

A Vampire who wants to be good, a Werewolf that hates his curse and a Ghost who doesn’t know how she got that way..sounds good to me..

It has a dark feel to it but the warmth is evident in the relationships and the desire to be….human.

Anyone else catch the series premiere? Love it, like it, hate it?
