We knew a first look was imminent, and it's now been announced that the trailer for Jordan Peele and director Nia DaCosta's
(Little Woods)
Candyman remake will be with us this Thursday.
In anticipation, some brief snippets of footage have been shared online. They don't reveal much, but the first clip does confirm that
Aquaman and
Watchmen actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will star. Previous reports indicated that he'd be playing the hook-handed villain himself, and while that may be the case, he appears as a normal guy here.
The second video gives us a quick glimpse of Candyman's hook, and we also get to hear his "be my victim" catchphrase.
Specific plot details for Universal and MGM's remake - which was actually developed as a "spiritual sequel" to the original - are still under wraps, but we do know that this retelling will "return to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood."
