DEMONIC: Check Out The Unnerving First Trailer For Neill Blomkamp's Supernatural Horror Film

We got a first glimpse of some footage from Neill Blomkamp's Demonic yesterday, and IFC Midnight has now unveiled the first teaser trailer for the District 9 director's first foray into full-on horror.

Filmed during the pandemic, the mysterious supernatural thriller focuses on "a young woman who unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades old rift between mother and daughter are revealed."

This trailer doesn't really give us much more to go on, but the disturbing visuals and droning voiceover/chant certainly have the desired effect. If Demonic turns out to be half as scary as it looks, we're in for quite a ride.

"The main character is a girl whose been estranged from her mother," Blomkamp explained to EW in a recent interview. "During the course of the film she gets sort of reunited with her mother and we learn about some crazy back story that she wasn't aware of. I would say it has a crossover between science fiction and horror."

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.

Demonic stars Carly Pope (Elysium), Chris William Martin (The Age of Adaline, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, The Vampire Diaries), and Michael Rogers (Siren, The Blacklist, Supernatural), and is set for release in select US theaters on August 20th, then on VOD starting August 27th. Do you plan in checking this one out?

@Oberlin4Prez - You didn't like District 9? that is one of the best sci-fi movies in recent times, and his best movie.

@PrinceOfPersia - I was so bored. To be fair, I only saw it once and there was some guy who wouldn't shut up the whole movie. I'd be willing to give it another shot but just never have. I saw Elysium and thought that was trash. Didn't see Chappie. Can't remember if he's done anything else since then.

@PrinceOfPersia - love your games, btw. Even the weird 3d watercolor variant that wasn't part of the main line games.

@Oberlin4Prez - District 9 is definitely worth another try, Elysium I watched it once and it's not good, Chappie I haven't watched it yet, but I heard it's good.

@Oberlin4Prez - Yeah the earlier Prince of Persia games were awesome, my favorite is Sands of Time. I am hoping someday they make a good movie of it, with a Persian or middle easter actors.

@PrinceOfPersia - Yeah Disney really drops the ball on those adaptations don't they? Lol PoP, John Carter, both should have been massive hit franchises for them.

Blomkamp is a very unique type of director. Even his straight forward films have such an unnerving charm to them. As interesting as his Alien4 concept art was, I'm happy he didn't do the project. That franchise is beyond saving at this point. What I would like to see him direct is an Assassin's Creed movie or show. He can definitely nail the eerie aspects of the first civilization and nail the technological horrors of the present.

Look like she's exploring her own mind/memories using that equipament and all that creepy stuff happening is just how she's uncovering/processing her past traumas.
