Emma Stone Is Resurrected In First Trailer For Yorgos Lanthimos' POOR THINGS

It's she's alive!

The first teaser trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos' (The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer) adaptation of Alasdair Gray's bestselling novel, Poor Things, is now online, giving us a visually stunning first glimpse of some footage from the acclaimed filmmaker's latest project.

The movie is expected to lean heavily into the book's Frankenstein influences, as Willem Dafoe's disfigured scientist resurrects Emma Stone's character, Bella Baxter, via a very familiar-looking experiment.

Bella then embarks on an adventure with Mark Ruffalo's "slick and debauched lawyer," as she begins to relish being alive... again!

We had been led to believe that this would be a "Victorian-era" tale, but based on what we see here, it seems to be set in more of a Steampunk-inspired alternate reality.

Have a look at the teaser for yourselves below, and let us know what you think in the comments section.

"From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation."

The movie has been rated R for “Strong and pervasive sexual content, graphic nudity, disturbing material, gore, and language."

Poor Things is set to hit theaters for a limited run this September.

This looks amazing! Terry Gilliam and Gorillaz music videos vibes. Wish more directors went GONZO with their backdrops and color pallets like this.

"Gwen Stacy is brought back to life by Norman Osborn. Under Osborn’s protection, Gwen is eager to learn. Wanting to see more of the world, Gwen runs off with Bruce Banner, a physically weak and emotionally reserved physicist, and travels the multiverse."

@IcePyke - That's... actually kinda what this is, isn't is? Weird. Then again, considering how many well-known actors have been in Marvel movies by this point, you could probably say the same thing about a bunch of other movies, where you just insert the actors' marvel character for whatever they are playing in that other movie.

Lanthimos is one of the best directors working today. Too bad its from Searchlight, which probably means no blu-ray release in Germany, because of [frick]ing Disney.

Knowing my luck, the 'Strong and pervasive sexual content, graphic nudity' will just apply to Mark Ruffalo. Dude has form.
