EVIL DEAD RISE Is Now Available On Digital - Check Out The Gleefully Gory Opening Scene

Lee Cronin's recent horror revival, Evil Dead Rise, is now available to stream, and the movie's gruesome opening sequence has been officially released online. Best put the kids out of the room for this...

Evil Dead Rise is now available to stream on Vudu, and Studio Canal (via FearHQ.com) has officially released the first 10 minutes of the critically-acclaimed horror revival online.

The movie opens with the signature Sam Raimi "Deadite POV" zoom to a lake near a secluded cabin, where a bookish final girl-type is trying to get some reading done while an obnoxious dude-bro chugs from a bottle beside her.

This all-too familiar set-up might suggest that we're in for yet another retread of the original Evil Dead (not to mention countless other horror flicks), but it turns out to be a total misdirect.

After a couple of grisly kills - seriously, things get messy - we're introduced to a whole new set of characters in a very different location.

Check out the teaser below, and let us know if you've seen/plan to see Evil Dead Rise in the comments section.

Written and directed by Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground) the movie stars Lily Sullivan (I Met a Girl, Barkskins), Alyssa Sutherland (The Mist, Vikings), Morgan Davies (Strom Boy, The End), Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence) and introducing Nell Fisher (Northspur).

"Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, Rise tells the twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sutherland and Sullivan, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable."

Evil Dead Rise was produced by Rob Tapert (Ash vs Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) and executive produced by series creator and horror icon Sam Raimi and cult legend himself, Bruce Campbell, along with John Keville, Macdara Kelleher, Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Romel Adam and Victoria Palmieri.

Ithought it was a 7.5 out of 10.

My Top 5:
1. The Evil Dead (1981)
2. Evil Dead II (1987)
3. Army of Darkness (1992)
4. Evil Dead Rise (2023)
5. Evil Dead (2013)

@MarvelZombie616 - I love that you give it a 7.5 outta 10, but there 3 films ahead of it in your ranking. Series truly hasn't had a single L.

@dragon316 - I'd like to see the reboot final girl and this one team up. I think it's a long shot to get Bruce Campbell back, but at least those two would make sense

Thought it was an absolute nothing of a movie. None of the unique spirit of the Evil Dead franchise, not enough shock, gore, or thrills to justify itself otherwise. Not terrible, just hopelessly mediocre.

i liked the film, going to be repeating it today. i just thought it couldve been more grotesque like the 2013 one, it seemed like they were holding a lot gore-wise. even the chainsaw scene looks so much better in the 2013 one, with a very simple and similar premise but a more nuanced execution towards graphicness and motion thematically

liked this one enough, but yeah they're gonna have to mix up the formula a bit next time. I'd love to see a more Army of Darkness toned one

There’s not a bad film in this franchise as far as I’m concerned. I wouldn’t say Evil Dead Rise revolutionized the franchise, but it did succeed in giving me characters I actually cared about, a wonderfully maniacal main villain, and a lot of creepiness/gore. It made great use of the new setting and was a solid entry to the franchise. I do wish we could see Fede Alvarez return for another film, or at least Jane Levy. Cronin talked about expanding the universe, so maybe that can happen. A new movie in the vein of Army Of Darkness could be awesome as well.

My favorite Evil Dead movie in order. I enjoyed the updated Evil Dead movies more than over the original more realistic with the Demons and Gore.

1) Evil Dead (2013)
2) Evil Dead Rise (2023)
3) The Evil Dead (1981)
4) Evil Dead II (1987)
5) Army of Darkness (1992)

Decent movie. Some of the dialog from the possessed ones was kinda goofy and cringy and they ended it without showing what happened to the possessed people screaming dead by dawn which kinda bugged me. Definitely fits in the “gore porn” horror group.

@AnthonyVonGeek - I don't think there is any logic to the possession in the Evil Dead Canon, the demons do what they do. Its fun and odd and having no rules adds to the mad cap nature of the series. Ash has been injured so many times and either never gets possessed or when he gets possessed has the will power to fight it off.

Also how come everyone that got hurt by the mom became possessed except for her sister? 🤷‍♂️

A lot of people had their gripes, but I enjoyed it. Much better than the 2013 remake.
