Evil Dead Rise had its world premiere at the SXSW film festival earlier this week, and the first reactions to Lee Cronin's "requel" have been very positive (as we know, that's hardly unusual).

Critics are hailing this latest instalment in the classic horror franchise as the goriest yet, and it sounds like it's also a lot more serious in tone than the original trilogy (the 2013 remake also dispensed with the humor for the most part).

The only negative feedback we've seen so far points out that the movie is overly cruel to its female characters, but overall, it sounds like Cronin has a blood-soaked winner on his hands.

With 11 reviews counted, Evil Dead Rise currently sits at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Before you check out the reactions, get a load of this guy! After the screening, one of the audience members shouted, "this movie sucks," before being told to "get the f*ck out" by Bruce Campbell.

Evil Dead Rise is set to hit theaters on April 21, 2023. The horror flick will ditch the usual forest setting and move the gory action to the city, as "two estranged sisters’ reunion is cut short when flesh-possessing demons thrust them into a battle for survival."
