EVIL DEAD RISE Reviews Promise Most Gruesome Entry In The Horror Franchise Yet

Following its premiere screening at SXSW earlier this week, the first reviews for Lee Cronin's Evil Dead Rise are in, and it sounds like gore-hounds are in for a treat...

Evil Dead Rise had its world premiere at the SXSW film festival earlier this week, and the first reactions to Lee Cronin's "requel" have been very positive (as we know, that's hardly unusual).

Critics are hailing this latest instalment in the classic horror franchise as the goriest yet, and it sounds like it's also a lot more serious in tone than the original trilogy (the 2013 remake also dispensed with the humor for the most part).

The only negative feedback we've seen so far points out that the movie is overly cruel to its female characters, but overall, it sounds like Cronin has a blood-soaked winner on his hands.

With 11 reviews counted, Evil Dead Rise currently sits at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Before you check out the reactions, get a load of this guy! After the screening, one of the audience members shouted, "this movie sucks," before being told to "get the f*ck out" by Bruce Campbell.

Evil Dead Rise is set to hit theaters on April 21, 2023. The horror flick will ditch the usual forest setting and move the gory action to the city, as "two estranged sisters’ reunion is cut short when flesh-possessing demons thrust them into a battle for survival."

That had to be a plant. Marketing gimmick. No way that guy shouted that…

@GhostDog - That was my thinking. Just toss a guy in there to drum up some kind of controversy knowing it would end up on social media. Can't blame them if that's the case. It worked for me. I completely forgot about this movie until I read an article about the guy storming out.

@GhostDog - Why? The movie is guaranteed to be good because it has the Evil Dead name on it? I believe him if it’s anything like the 2013 movie.

@GhostDog - No way, that "dude sat through the all of the credits..." line was way too natural and off the cuff. That was definitely a user here thinking their opinion mattered in the real world.

@GhostDog - Pretty sure I found his Twitter account. It's full of retweets about a viral marketing stunt for a horror movie called Smile. Definitely suspicious.

@bobevanz - Yeah it was good, not as good as the first two but probably about the same as Army Of Darkness.

Like Army Of Darkness is borderline a family movie.

Nowhere near the level of gore of the other 3 movies or the TV show.

So I am looking forward to this.

It’s funny that people can’t believe someone yelled out this movie sucks at the screening. I have no trouble believing him. I hated the 2013 remake, and this looks like more of the same. Put some kids in the movie to make it more edgy. Yawn….

The movie looks decent from the trailer, so I'll give it a chance.

I've got The Sadness to watch on Blu-Ray,uncut German edition.

Can't wait to see that.

With the exception of one of the kids, all the characters are women, what exactly did they expect? lmao, never show these people the original Evil Dead.

Anyway, the trailer was trash, they still dont get what the soul of Evil Dead is...even the TV show with Bruce Campbell though its just gore and bad jokes.

I've never understood this genre. Gimme some jump scares, and even some frightening intensity, but anything that is just over the top horrifying and gory just does little for me. And generally with no positive resolution.

Even tho Shazam 2 will likely flop, at least WB had the wits to push this to theaters and it should do very well. I'm pumped.
