Before the footage was shown director Fede Alvarez insisted that hardly any of the images were computer generated. That description below comes courtesy of io9.com.
First, we saw the iconic cabin, which is introduced with the iconic Sam Raimi low-angle tracking shot. A group of new kids and Jane Levy push open the old cabin door, revealing leaves, dirt and a grubby cabin floor. Jane looks beat as hell and ready for her night of heroin withdraw (yes they are keeping the plot similar to the original). A trap door is discovered. A boy heads down the stairs and discovers THE NECRONOMICON! Sadly, we didn't get the money shot of the new book cover; all we saw was a book wrapped in black plastic, someone ripping into it and the familiar old pages. The character starts flipping through the Necronomicon, rubbing a pencil over the strange words. He recites the enchanted phrases. Jane lets out an insane high-pitched scream and then states, "We're all going to die tonight." This was already cut together pretty quickly; now things get even faster, so we're only getting flashes of the gore. I spot a girl in the shower cutting up the sides of her mouth, while one of her cabinmates screams, "What are you doing?" Another girl's arm looks like it's covered in boils, and she takes an electric carving knife to her bicep. Someone starts up a chainsaw (the crowd goes insane at this). Cut to another girl trapped in the woods, wrapped with branches. Yep, the raping tree is back. Jane returns with white eyes, white skin and a black tongue, which she sticks out, provocatively licking an exposed knife. Slowly the knife starts splitting her tongue in half. She's doing this right in front the boil armed girl's face.

“In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.”

The Evil Dead will be directed by Fede Alvarez. The film stars Jane Levy (Suburgatory) as Mia; Shiloh Fernandez (Deadgirl, Red Riding Hood) as David; Lou Taylor Pucci (Carriers) as Eric; Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield) as Olivia and Elizabeth Blackmore (Legend of the Seeker) as Natalie. The film will be released on April 12, 2013.

You know I care if a comic book movie is done right. For something like this, I'm just hoping for a good date night with some scares. Doing the "tree rapes a girl scene," even if it's done with todays tech, can be left out in my opinion though.

Their probaly going to give the Ash role to a girl just to make it modern

Hopefully it's as good as the original. We had a scary movie night and I put the OG on and nobody liked it, so I'm guessing this one will cater to THOSE people.

Look I'm not going to bash thi movie at all for Bruce actively vetoing the character, thats respect saying no one else can be Ash, my real problem is that this movie sounds predictable, and with teengers reading Ancient Candarian Texts and Lithograms from the Book of the Dead just seems like a gaping plot hole, an this is coming from the writer of Jennifer's Body.

Another thing, something that never happened before Evil Dead, a male protagonist who is the only survivor. Why make it more typical by making the survivor a female? Will she at least evolve into a tougher character?

I am anticipating this film, just though hope they go old school for this and no damn CGI, that'd kill what made the original so good, but I'll keep my hopes held high until a trailer proves me otherwise this could actually be one of those horror films that stand above a lot of the shit they put out today

Another pointless remake. I don't know who to be more pissed at...the people who keep wanting to remake shit or the people who are letting them remake their shit. ENOUGH ALREADY. Make some new stuff please. These things are never close to being as good as the original. Remakes have consistently sucked ass. The only remakes that would be justified in my opinion would be Star Wars I-III.

The one franchise that shouldn't be remade, and Hollywood did it.

the main reason i loved the evil dead franchise (particularly evil dead 2 and army of darkness) was bruce campbell as ash. in my opinion, he was the star of that series.

the maniacal laugh. the chainsaw arm. "groovy". "swallow this". i even loved army of darkness, like when he forgets the password thing, and then the final battle and all that.

i dunno. just doesn't seem wise to remake this series without the star actor or character...

This is what we're getting instead of Evil Dead 4.

The Raimis were working on a script for a 4th movie, and even though it seemed to be taking them a while we could have eventually seen a continuation of Ash's story. But now there's no chance of that happening, and instead we get this pointless remake, without Ash, Bruce Campbell or any kind of originality.
