Earlier today, Disney released a new trailer and poster (via Toonado.com) for Haunted Mansion, a movie the studio is describing as a "frighteningly fun adventure."
It certainly looks like a twisted tale we can have a good time with, anyway, and there are plenty of Easter Eggs to be found for fans of the iconic theme park ride. That originated in Disneyland before making the leap to Disney World and other parks across the world; in Paris, for example, it's known as "Phantom Manor."
Disney has found mixed success with its theme park ride adaptations. Pirates of the Caribbean and Jungle Cruise were box office hits, while the likes of Tomorrowland, Dinosaur, and Mission to Mars have been largely forgotten.
In 2003, Disney released a version of The Haunted Mansion starring Eddie Murphy. It wasn't a critical success but is a movie that has its fair share of fans. Up next for Disney is Tower of Terror, directed by Thor: Ragnarok's Taika Waititi starring regular Disney World attendee Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Endgame).
Haunted Mansion is about a woman and her son who enlist a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid their home of supernatural squatters.
Directed by Justin Simien, the movie features an all-star cast ensemble cast including LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Chase W. Dillon and Dan Levy, with Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto as The Hatbox Ghost.
The producers are Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, with Nick Reynolds and Tom Peitzman serving as executive producers.
Haunted Mansion is set to be released in theaters on July 28.
