HELLRAISER: Here's What Critics Are Saying In The First Social Media Reactions To Hulu's Horror Reboot HELLRAISER: Here's What Critics Are Saying In The First Social Media Reactions To Hulu's Horror Reboot

Critics have weighed in with their social media reactions to Hulu's upcoming Hellraiser reboot, and the consensus appears to be that this is a definite return to form for the long-running horror franchise.

The social media embargo for Hulu's upcoming Hellraiser reboot was recently lifted and it looks like the movie is receiving widespread critical acclaim thus far.

There had been some concern that the franchise, which has been running on fumes for a very long time, might struggle to resonate with horror fans. Instead, it sounds like this is a pitch-perfect take on the property that restores it to its former glory after more than a few underwhelming entries over the years. Oh, and the Cenobites? They sound utterly terrifying.

Hulu is proving to be a great place for some of the properties that Disney inherited from 20th Century Fox during the Disney/Fox merger as Prey (a reboot of the Predator series) was also a huge hit. We're still waiting for news on a sequel to that, of course.

Hellraiser, a reimagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic from director David Bruckner, debuts exclusively on Hulu on October 7 as part of the streamer's annual "Huluween" celebration of fright-filled content.

In the all-new Hellraiser, a young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.

Take a look at the first social media reactions (via FearHQ.com), including our own, below:

Hulu seems to be where the revival of 80s action/horror franchises get a new lease of life.

Being a horror fan back in the day when all the originals came out, Hellraiser was one of the worst! People only liked Pinhead cause he looked cool. The rest of the movie was absolute garbage. But everyone is talking about how good it was. Don't understand the love.

@BatNipplesBad - Oh yeah, but basically all of the 80s horror/slasher films suck (except Child's Play). Even Elm Street is incredibly goofy upon a modern rewatch. I'm fond of them because they used to scare the shit out of me as a child, but they're almost unwatchable as an adult. That's why I wish it were possible for someone to make a decent reboot.

@dragon316 - Where are you from? And how so Verizon called you for torrenting?

Oh man, here in Peru many of us use torrents for everything (movies, series, games, blu rays…) or just use webs to watch online… with no problems. Granted, not everyone. Many still prefer to pay subscriptions. Personally, I prefer to torrent because I find better qualities than those found on that free stream webs.

I watch and have content from anything from Netflix, D+, AppleTv+, Prime, to Hulu that doesn't exist in Latin America. In any case, it's not that I'm inciting you to commit any crime, just showing how different things are around here… 😅😅😅

As always, I'm sure these early reactions are overly optimistic, but I'm very interested; the trailer looks great, and the first two are, frankly, not very good. They have a great premise, the atmosphere is strong, and there's some genuinely shocking gore, but beyond that, they're hopelessly silly. The material warrants a good reboot, and I can imagine this being it: The Hell Priest/Pinhead was always the best part, and Clayton seems like she nails it. The voice and delivery are suitably eerie and reminiscent but not derivative of Doug Bradley.
