Amazon Studios is developing a new YA horror series based on hit '90s slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer. The project hails from Sony Pictures Television and Original Film, and has Preacher scribe Sara Goodman on board as writer.

The 1997 original was based on the novel of the same name by Lois Duncan, and starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Phillippe, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. as a group of teens who find themselves stalked by a mysterious killer a year after a fatal accident on their graduation night.

The show is expected to follow the same premise.

“The best horror franchises always have another scare coming, and this I Know What You Did Last Summer series from Sara Goodman is a perfectly twisted update to the iconic slasher movie,” said Albert Cheng, COO and CO-Head of Television, Amazon Studios. “Any way you slice it, our global Prime Video customers will love this modern take on the fan favorite film.”

Although it spawned two inferior sequels, the first I Know What You Did Last Summer movie was a big hit despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, and is generally credited with revitalizing the slasher genre along with Scream.

Fans should probably expect the gore to be toned down considerably if this show is going to be geared more towards younger teens, however.
