James Gunn-Produced Horror Film BRIGHTBURN Is Basically A Superman Origin Story - If He Were Inherently Evil

What if baby Kal-El landed on Earth, but instead of becoming the hero we know and love, he became the villain. A being so inherently evil that he couldn't be saved. Well, that's the premise of Brightburn.

After being a last-minute scratch at San Diego Comic-Con, Sony Pictures has finally unveiled the full-length theatrical trailer for their upcoming James Gunn-produced horror feature, Brightburn, which seemingly retells one of the most iconic origin stories of all-time with a devastatingly dark twist.

While Zack Snyder may have been unsuccessful in his attempt to bring an evil Superman to the big screen in Justice League, it looks like Brightburn will take it one step further by exploring the tale of a powerful alien that was born inherently evil and despite the love and affection of his parents, played by Power Rangers co-stars Elizabeth Banks and David Denman, he can't be saved.

David Yarovesky (The Hive) helmed the film with a script from James Gunn's brother Brian Gunn and cousin Mark Gunn.

What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.

Brightburn features:
Director: David Yarovesky
Elizabeth Banks
David Denman
Jackson A. Dunn
Matt Jones
Meredith Hagner

Brightburn hits theaters May 24
