It's been quite a while since we've had any news on this one, but THR reports that Eric Heisserer (the A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Thing remakes) has been tapped to pen New Line's big screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Sandman.

We've heard persistent rumors that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would direct and star in the movie, and that seems to have been confirmed also - it's assumed he'll be taking the title role of Morpheus, but that has yet to be verified. David Goyer wrote the treatment with Levitt and will also produce.

Apparently New Line hopes to make a Sandman trilogy, which should please fans who thought they might attempt to squeeze the guts of this massive story into one movie.

Awesome news.

He also wrote the screenplay to Story of Your Life which stars Amy Adams and is directed by Denis Villeneuve, which comes out this year.

Everything doesn't HAVE to be a trilogy. Sandman would be cool as a character who is an intermediary who intervenes from time to time; an ethereal observer.

How about having Sandman be a watcher of sorts in a dark VERTIGO UNIVERSE with charcaters such as Constantine, Snow White and the rest of the Fables? Lucifer too.

i'm not sure about the writer but we shall see ... as i recall NOES remake wasn't all that bad. I did not watch any other movies this guy wrote so i won't yell at him.
Wonder if the movie will combine like 2 - 3 graphic novel or they gonna take focus on one. It was a long time since i read the Sandman but i think (i may be wrong though) that story about serial killer club was the most "cinematic one".

ahhhh ... Goyer treatment ... from what i remember it did not have much to do with Sandman mythos.
Still the guy it good in writing treatments for movies. He is better story teller than script writer i guess.
