Lionsgate and WWE Studios are teaming to reboot the 1990’s
Leprechaun franchise, which starred Warwick Davis in the title role. The franchise began in 1993 and spawned five sequels with stars such as Jennifer Aniston, Ice-T and Miguel A. Núñez, Jr. acting in the films. A successful line of action figure and a comic book series were also created.
These films aren’t regarded in the upper echelon of horror, but will the unique film styling of the WWE be able to rejuvenate this franchise. The studios initial effort, and arguably their best, was See No Evil starring WWE Superstar Kane back in 2006. They have tapered off in recent years, relegating themselves to direct-to-DVD films. Is the Leprechaun stepping into the squared circle the right move?
Hard to say, we’ll have to wait until 2013 to find out, but both studios are optimistic, with a sequel already contracted. And if the reboot proves to be less than stellar, at the very least we will see Hornswoggle bodyslam someone to death, right?
What do you think? Is this reboot a good idea or not? Sound off below!
