It looks like a big-screen adaptation of Josh Blaylock's 2008 comic book Mercy Sparx will soon be in development at MGM, as the studio has now acquired the screen rights to the cult Devil's Due series.

Mercy Sparx follows the title character, a she-demon from Hell, who is sent to Earth on a mission which she must complete while hiding among humans. Mercy then has an existential crisis and begins to see the gray area between good and evil. This ultimately forces her to choose her place within it and compromises her mission.

Up-and-coming writer Nick Shafir has been hired to pen the script, which is said to be "akin to a female Constantine." The Picture Company and Assemble Media are producing, while Blaylock will exec produce along with Assemble’s Scott Veltri. The project is being overseen by MGM’s Elishia Holmes and Sandino Moya-Smith.

No tentative production start or release date were provided, but it sounds like things are only in the very early stages of development, so it could be a while before we get any further updates.

Any Mercy Sparx fans among you guys? If so, who could you see in the title role? Drop us a comment in the usual place.

@NateBest I like that I at least do not have to scroll as far to get to the comments section :). I'll take it.

@TheManWithoutFear - Aside from the headline layout, the location of the comments button was the other big thing that I heard in all of the feedback :)
