Paranormal Activity, according to ecksmanfan

A lot of hype on this film. Does it live up to it?

Review Opinion

If you have seen the trailer for this film, then you have a general idea of the premise of the movie. For those that have not, the film follows a couple that seems to have some strange things happening in their home: footsteps, thumps, etc. Micah decides to purchase a camera and microphone to film and record the goings on in their home. It just goes down hill from there.

It is hard to dismiss the similarities between this film and the film that it is constantly being compared to, "The Blair Witch Project." From the very idea of the "found footage" to the ending of the film, but "Paranormal Activity" is more superior in my eyes. It felt more real and the characters are more believable and less obnoxious.

Speaking of acting, this film was done quite well. Not overly done like you think it might be. The psychic is kind of weak, but his time is short.

If you have ever watched any of the ghost hunting shows on TV now days, then you have some inkling of what to do and not do when dealing with "entities," Micah needs to watch more TV. I was a bit frustrated on some of the things he did or didn't do, but that just comes from my love of the topic and does not take away from the film at all.

If you are looking for something to get the heart rate up and to get your significant other to move a bit closer to you, then go check this one out; it's a lot of fun to watch.

Compared to many people on CBM, I'm a relative newbie to the comic book world. I've just recently (within the last 10 years or so) started reading comics. However, I've been a fan of comic book characters nearly all my life, thanks to cartoons like the X-Men Series and Batman. Been downhill ever since.

I am an avid movie watcher and run my own movie website,(GeekBoyMovieNews) which covers a wide variety of movies, books and television news. There is nothing better to me than to sit back and a enjoy a good movie, or a crappy one for a good laugh.

While you may not see a lot of articles submitted by me, I've been an active user for close to three years here on CBM and I enjoy every minute on here. We have the best online community on the net her at CBM.com.

I've been lucky enough to climb the ranks here at CBM and the almighty Galactus has chosen me to act as one of his Heralds (Jr. Editor). So if you ever need suggestions or help on articles, I am more than happy to help out; you can find me in the CBM chat quite often. I also assist Big G in his "Beat Galactus Quizzes," so if you feel like you have a good question for the next quiz or suggestions on making them work better and more smoothly, feel free to drop me a line.

I look forward to talking and discussing comic books and their movies with all of you on the site!

So @ecksman tell me something more about rather if it is claimed the "most scariest movie of all time" or, a B doesn't give it justice..

It'll make your butt hole pucker once or twice but it is far from being the scariest movie of all time. It's just a fun movie to watch. It'll get the heart rate increased a bit. There are definately movies that are scarier than this one, it was a bit over-hyped.

FYI, don't use wikipedia for reliable information...people can write whatever they want inthose articles. I did a lot of research on this show, and am a huge fan of the paranormal and "ghost hunting" and can tell you this film ain't real stuff. It may be based on several actual stories but that's it.

flames - Are you kidding me?! "Wikipedia" is a reliable source?!! 'Wikipedia' allows ANYBODY to edit material on their site! That's why it has SOOOOO much information on it. Not all of it is necessarily FACTUAL, which is why the information keeps on changing.

As for the actors being 'REAL', according to IMDB...

Katie Featherson ('Katie') was in the 2006 direct-to-video movie 'Mutation' and will be appearing in the upcoming movie 'Walking Distance'.

Micah Sloat (aka 'Micah') is a newbie as this is his first film.

As for the Pyschic (PLAYED by Mark Fredrichs), he has been in one other film called 'Wristcutters: A Love Story' that came out in 2006.

These people are ACTORS. Granted they haven't had a lot of exposure, but they are playing CHARACTERS and these CHARACTERS are not 'REAL PEOPLE'. This stuff DID NOT 'really happen'. Face it dude, this is a directed FILM, not a DOCUMENTARY.

Flames dude, here from Wiki, just so you know, and I quote; "Paranormal Activity is a 2009 mockumentary horror film written and directed by Oren Peli."

A mockumentary, not a documentary, it's made to look like it's a documented event, when reality it isn't. Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield, they all used the same formula.

Also, they wouldn't put a film in public theaters depicting an actual killing of a human being for entertainment purposes. Their would have been a lot of protests.

By the way, good review, I was wondering if this movie was all it was cracked up to be. Personally I'm looking forward to "The Fourth Kind."

@Stumblin- Thanks! I saw a poster for "The Fourth Kind" while at the theatre. I hadn't heard about it? What's the premise?
Stumblin
Stumblin - 10/12/2009, 1:02 PM
Well it's based on a true story, and even better they mix real footage and the film's. It's about people being abducted in a small town of Alaska, and Milla Jovovich plays a therapist that tries to find out why these people appear crazy talking about this "white owl" and during the shots of them being in therapy they switch over to the actual documented sessions, it's pretty wild! I think it might be the next "Fire in the Sky" that shit scared the crap out of me, and still does!

scariest movie i've ever seen. Amazing in every way. This film is truly great because it manages to be so scary, with such a small budget, and virtually no effects. The simplicity of it is amazing. The 3rd best movie of the year ( behind Hangover, and District 9), and truly, a remarkable work of cinematic art.
