The recent re-adaptation of Stephen King's Pet Sematary wasn't entirely successful (to put it kindly), but it was a pretty big hit for Paramount Pictures, and a follow-up is now being developed for the studio's Paramount+ streaming service.
Lindsey Beer (Chaos Walking, Sieraa Burgess is A Loser, Godzilla vs. Kong) has been tapped to make her directorial debut on the project, which was originally envisioned as a prequel. However, Deadline reports that "the plot’s direction is still being figured out and a prequel is not guaranteed at this time."
The ending of the 2019 movie - which took some significant liberties with King's original tale - did leave things open for the story to continue, but there's no word on whether any of the cast are set to return.
Beer, who also wrote the latest script based off a draft by Jeff Buhler, has become one of the most in-demand female writers in Hollywood, and has several big projects on her schedule, including a live-action Bambi movie, a new M.A.S.K. animated series, and Sony Pictures' stalled Silver Sable film.
What do you guys think? Any interest in a sequel or prequel to 2019's Pet Sematary, or would you rather they let it rest? Drop us a comment down below.
