Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City opened last month (Dec 3 in the UK) to pretty dismal reviews, and while it didn't fare too badly at the box office all things considered, it certainly didn't succeed in breathing new life into the franchise. Now, presumably in an attempt to entice people to stream the movie, Sony Pictures has released the first 9 minutes online.
The footage begins with a young girl being awakened by a very creepy kid (fans will likely recognize her as Lisa Tevor), who she then follows deeper into the Raccoon City Orphanage. After an encounter with the sinister Dr. Birkin (Neal McDonough) we jump to Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario) for a sequence that should be very familiar to fans of the video games.
We're not sure if this will be enough to convince potential viewers to part with their hand-earned, but check out the clip for yourselves below and let us know what you think.
"Returning to the origins of the massively popular Resident Evil franchise, fan and filmmaker Johannes Roberts brings the games to life for a whole new generation of fans. In Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland…with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, a group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and contain the danger, while trying to make it through the night."
Directed by Johannes Roberts, Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City is now available to watch on VOD.
