An official website for Robert Eggers' upcoming Nosferatu remake is now live, and while it's still a little bare bones at the moment, it does give us a first look at the movie's title treatment along with a brief story synopsis.

"Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him."

Pretty much what we expected, then!

Eggers will likely make a few stylistic changes, but we don't anticipate the filmmaker altering the classic tale to any significant degree.

Lily Rose-Depp, Bill Skarsgard and Nicholas Hoult will play the main roles, with Emma Corrin, Aaron Taylor Johnson and regular Eggers collaborator Willem Dafoe recently joining the cast.

Interestingly, Johnson's name is first on the site's cast list, which would seem to suggest that he'll have a bigger role than we realized. Skarsgard will portray Count Orlok, and Hoult is believed to be playing Thomas Hutter (Nosferatu's take on Jonathan Harker, basically), so we have no idea which character would be considered to be of equal or greater importance. Perhaps Eggers added a new face to the story?

The Northman star Anya Taylor-Joy was originally in line for the female lead, but was forced to drop out due to a scheduling conflict. Harry Styles was also said to have read for the role of Hutter.

No release date has been announced, but production is currently underway.

Helllllllll yessssssss!!! One of, if not the only person i’d trust to do Nosferatu justice is Eggers. Very happy he’d got his cinematic muse Ralph Ineson back too

@RorMachine - The Witch is probably still the best horror of the 2000s imo, guy can do no wrong

@Cap1 - I've liked all his movies to one degree or another. Personally I felt like the Lighthouse was his worst one, which is still saying a lot because even that was a great movie.

The Witch was fantastic. And so was the Northman. I'm pumped for this.

@CorndogBurglar - i’d say ‘least excellent’ rather than ‘worst’, but yeah, I agree. Wild Universal gave him a ton of money for a movie like The Northman, and i’m delighted they did. The fact he used to be a production designer shows in his immaculate visuals and sets

Man, I really hope that this one turns in some profit because I want Eggers to keep doing what he does at the highest level possible.

I've never felt more meh about a stellar cast. Everyone is great but also feels...typecast? Lily Rose Depp is a surprising choice...

Can't yet say I'm familiar with Eggers but the faith and excitement people are displaying for him is heartwarming

Loved; The Witch, The Lighthouse and The Northman. Robert Eggers' leans on psychological horror over effects, which is far more rewarding than computer wizardry and OTT action. It will date better too. Can't think of a better director to make this. Also curious to watch Willem Dafoe in another Nosferatu film, he played the lead in the 'Shadow of the Vampire' (2000) spoof.

Watched the original for the first time not too long time ago. Considering it's age and how Count Orlok has become this goofy popculture figure, it's amazing how well it still holds up and how genuily creepy some of the scenes are.

I know that Skarsgard will play the Count but I'd prefer Dafoe getting that role. Full circle after the amazing Shadow of the Vampire.

Eggers is 1 of the few directors that's very consistent on the use of accurate accents which makes me excited for how the actors will sound. Most other directors I'd just expect everyone to sound American and British in this.
