San Diego Comic-Con is underway, and we have some news that should get fans of the long-running Saw franchise's blood pumping.

Lionsgate (via FearHQ.com) has announced that the tenth movie, appropriately titled Saw X, is set to hit theatres a month earlier than originally advertised on September 29, and the studio has also debuted a first-look still from the horror prequel.

The image features the returning Tobin Bell as John Kramer, aka the twisted Jigsaw Killer.

The movie's timeline has also been confirmed, and Saw X will be set between the events of the first two movies, focusing on "a sick and desperate John travelling to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer — only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable."

"Armed with a newfound purpose, the infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged and ingenious traps."

It sounds like they might be attempting to spin Jigsaw as more of an avenging anti-hero than an outright villain here, which may prove to be an interesting take.

The tenth installment in the popular horror franchise is directed by Kevin Greutert (Saw VI, Saw VII) from a screenplay by Peter Goldfinger (Jigsaw, Spiral) and Josh Stolberg.

The cast also includes Synnove Macody Lund, Steven Brand, Michael Beach, Renata Vaca, Paulette Hernandez, Joshua Okamoto, and Octavio Hinojosa, with sees Shawnee Smith set to reprise the role of Amanda Young.

Any Saw fans out there? Be sure to let us know if you're looking forward to this one in the comments.

These films have become like the final destination films to me, I watch for the gory death scenes but the story is usually ass. I don't think anything beats the shock / horror of the original saw.

@TheClunges - See I loved them for the story. It was so stupid, melodramatic and ridiculous I couldn't look away. I can take or leave the traps.Saw 7 was basically just traps and I haven't watched one since.

@Mrcool210 - 🤣🤣🤣 you and my older brother are alike. He was so invested in the story whereas I thought the twists and turns were terrible.

I still hype myself up for these flicks, lol.

Could we just get actual zombie jigsaw? The series is so stupid already it would push it over the edge and make it fun again.

I was so invested in these films that I used to write Saw fanfiction scripts on the old imdb message boards back in the day. I think I did stories for Saw 4, 5, and 6 before those movies eventually came out. They actually got a fair amount of traffic for what they were. Those were the days...

These movies aren't exactly Shakespeare, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't get excited every time a new one of these drops.

Really interested to see how they utilize the timeline here. Saw 1 and 2 were by far the most interesting stories for me.

They should cover jigsaw seducing Dr Gordon to his side. Then they could do proper sequels with Dr Gordon as Jigsaw instead of doing the presequels!

@JonAwesome - Right? That was the way they should have gone with the franchise since 7. Especially since Cary Elwes has had a career resurgence since, bring in Tobin Bell as Gordon's "subconcious" and the gang is rolling for more mayhem.

They probably didn't want to pay Elwes though since the drama from the first movie may have still soured them.

Wait, so jigsaw goes to Mexico believing it'll have a genuine chance as opposed to the US, and didn't think it'd be a scam? And this is the impossibly brilliant character who plans sh!t out perfectly, even after his death.

@CorndogBurglar - but desperation doesn't even make sense at this point.

@Origame - I would say it does. He's dying and he's so desperate to live that he's willing to try anything. Including going to another country to see a doctor that claims they can help him. He wouldn't be the first person to have done that, either. People have done this in real life.

@CorndogBurglar - but by this point his plan is fully in motion. And that plan includes having one of his victims, Jeff, kill him. That was even the point of taking in Hoffman and Gordon, who both have been recruited at this point. To carry on the legacy after he dies.

Saw films are complexed. You really have to pay attention.

@Order66 - the first two were complex. The rest were about as complex as milking a cow, which is what they’re up to here.

Spiral had one of the best trailers in ages, it actually looked like they were returning to the quality of the first movie. Had that Se7en look about it. Man, what a dogshit, unnecessary boring film that turned out to be.

Man that first movie was great. What a twist. And the music! Could have been considered an all time horror great, but they tarnished it by throwing ten balls of crap at it afterwards and now it’s all just covered in dung.

I don't think it sounds like that at all. At least not any more than in any of the other films when this guy was the villain. If anyone was paying attention to the movies when this guy was still the villain, he always targeted less than savory people that had done shitty things in the past. Their motivations for doing those things didn't really factor in. If they took life for granted, or [frick]ed over other people, then he targeted them. Period. And these people in Mexico are definitely taking advantage of others and [frick]ing them over. The only difference is they [frick]ed him over directly.

Should've went full r*tard and just brought Jigsaw back again, instead of doing a Interquel, but I'm still jacked for more of him. Spiral sucked ass, back to the basics ideally

Oh, Jesus, why? I know I'll see it and hopefully enjoy it. The director made Saw 6, which was surprisingly good after 4 & 5, but he also directed 7 which was just awful. Shoehorning even more into the timeline though is just... how much can a sick dying man actually do in all that time?! A healthy person couldn't accomplish all that, even with all those BS accomplices of his. All the same, I guess let's see him go Rambo in Mexico.

Blergh
Blergh - 7/21/2023, 10:44 AM
@BobGarlen - I'd say 2.5 given that the first movie didn't focus on Tobin Bell at all. They might try to copy the second one
Blergh
Blergh - 7/21/2023, 10:45 AM
Honestly, I'm here for it.
We all know there's barely anything you can do outside of Dr. Gordon continuing the legacy but as long as that doesn't happen it'll all feel cheap.
So doing a midquel is a solid idea. Especially since Jigsaw always looked old.

It was Kramer and Newman trashing his record store that caused him to go crazy and become Jigsaw

🤣😜

Was this not the storyline of Saw VI when Jigsaw left plans for Jill Tuck to hand deliver game details to Hoffman and that very game involved a Private Health Insurance company defrauding at risk patients and controlling what and what can't be covered on their Health plans? But now it's in Mexico.
