Following a recent rumor that a new Scream movie was in the works without Radio Silence at the helm, we now have confirmation that Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment are working on a seventh instalment in the iconic horror franchise.

As previously reported, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo known as Radio Silence, will not be back to helm the project after directing the previous two entries. It seems the pair will be stepping away to focus on their untitled Universal Monster movie (which is believed to be a take on Dracula's Daughter), but they will remain on board in a producing capacity.

Instead, Christopher Landon, (the Happy Death Day movies, Freaky) will take charge of Ghostface's return to the big screen

Pre-production won't be able to commence until after the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes come to an end, so don't be surprised if we're waiting another while (potentially a long while) for any official updates on this next Scream movie.

It's a given that the surviving "Core Four" played by Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmine Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding will be back (and no doubt invincible as ever), and we may also see Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers after her near-fatal encounter with the masked killer in Scream VI.

There have been rumors that Neve Campbell may reprise the role of Sydney Prescott after sitting out the last film, but we wouldn't put too much stock in those reports just yet.

Are you looking forward to another Scream movie with some fresh blood behind the camera? Drop us a comment down below.

I'll see it because the director has made some entertaining movies. Not because of Scream 6, that movie was a shitshow

Can't wait to see how Randy's nephew and niece get stabbed 10000 times only to be back for Scream 8

Excellent news! Scream is one of a few franchises where I don't dislike a single movie. Bring back Stu please.

@Batman91 - ew, 3 was definitely the worst

@Batman91 - Yeah, no offence, but can't agree with that at all. 4 and 5 are the only Scream sequels that I would call great (I enjoy 2 and 6 fine, but they are steps down), while 3 is just terrible.

@FinnishDude - Hard disagree. My ranking is 2, 1, 6, 3, 5, 4. Different strokes for different folks.

My ranking is:

1,2,5,6,3 and 4.

But I do think 4 had the best motivation out of all the sequels! Ahead of it's time. I just hated how it looked like a soap opera and felt kinda pg13💁

I'm 50/50 with this on one half I feel like some new blood will help the franchise, but on the other half this guys other films lead me to believe we'll probably get a film in the vain of the MTV scream show.

Scream 6 was on its way to being one of my favorite until they ruined it with the killer review and motivation, so I hope this means we are getting new writers as well.

I really wish they would've just ended this franchise after 3 or 4. But sadly, I suppose it was its destiny to become like the other slasher franchises that overstayed their welcomes & saw diminishing returns in quality as well as audience anticipation.

So instead of greenlighting Happy Death Day 3, they are still gonna milk out Scream franchise. Scream 6 was horrible. Hope Landon brings in his sense of humour and gore to 7th one.
