Following the record-breaking box office success of Scream 7, it was only a matter of time before we got word on the next instalment of the long-running slasher franchise, and we now have confirmation that Scream 8 is officially moving forward with a new writing team attached.

THR and Deadline are reporting that Spyglass and Paramount Pictures have enlisted Lilla and Nora Zuckerman to pen the project.

The Zuckerman Sisters most recently served as showrunners for Peacock's Poker Face, and have also worked as writers and co-executive producers on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Suits, Fringe, and Prodigal Son.

Despite a mixed reception from critics, Scream 7 went on to become the highest-grossing film in the franchise, earning more than $200 million worldwide.

Neve Campbell returned as OG final girl Sidney Prescott for Scream 7 after skipping the previous instalment due to a pay dispute. We assume she'll be back for this next movie, but there's no mention of her involvement in the trade reports.

Kevin Williamson directed Scream 7 and also penned the script with Guy Busick, but he has already made it clear that he has no interest in returning to helm the next film.

In addition to Campbell, David Arquette returns as former police officer Dewey Riley, along with Scott Foley as Scream 3's Ghostface, Roman Bridger. Courteney Cox also reprises her role as Gale Weathers, along with Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin and Jasmine Savoy Brown as his sister, Mindy. New cast members include Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace and Sam Rechner.

“Sidney Prescott is coming back!” Campbell posted on Instagram when her return was made official. “It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies. My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realised as her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.

@ModHaterSLADE - I enjoyed this one but at some point they have to conclude this. Ghost Face can’t do this till he’s 90.

@XenoJazz - 7 & 8 were bad compared to the other films. 7 to me felt like a remake of Part 3 the "original" worst Scream film. But 8 is the worst of the franchise. box office was huge during 1st week as it was marketed as the final Scream film, then due to poor reception it dropped 75% the following week and is probably 1 of the worst drop off in 2026.

Is 8 one of the worst films this year? No, but its the worst of the franchise. Superficial or shallow characters, pointless cameos, terrible story, and worst villain reveal. Unlike the previous films where Scream always had a social commentary on the state of horror films or a fun agatha christie who don it murder mystery...all that gets thrown out for a rushed sequel due to trouble production.

@XenoJazz - It was alright, sure as hell not the best in the series, but still a fun watch.

APRIL FOOOOOOLLS

Although with all the "regular" articles on every other day, you could just eliminate the April and leave the fools.

Damn, Scream has always been a solid franchise with great commentary on the horror genre. But these last 2 films were terrible, can't believe they are destroying the goodwill of the franchise by making these money grabbing sequels. If the next film is as bad as 7, I'm probably going to bow out of the franchise. Wes Craven would not be happy with these last 2 films.

Scream 7 made me like the franchise again. Iliked 5, and didn't like 6. Other than the already-tired artificial intellience plot, it was a good and creative movie.

These movies must be cheap to produce. If they can keep being creative, I say "keep em coming."
