The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping star Mckenna Grace has appeared in her share of R-rated movies over the years, and has come to be regarded as something of a horror icon thanks to roles in the likes of Scream 7, Five Nights at Freddy's 2, Annabelle Comes Home, and the recent Ghostbusters films.
She is also set to play Daphne in Netflix's live-action Scooby-Doo: Origins series.
While the 20-year-old singer and actress is fine with violence and gore, she has now explained why she tends to turn down roles that require nudity or anything too "hypersexual."
"At this point, I definitely don’t do nudity or very hypersexual things,” Grace told Cosmopolitan when asked if there are any roles she would decline. “I respect anybody who can, but it’s terrifying to me. I don’t know if that’ll ever change. It’s not like I only do wholesome things — my character literally gets gutted by Ghostface in Scream — but my dream is to try and be a Disney princess someday.”
Grace was also asked how she's navigated the transition between being seen as a "kid on set" to an "adult on set".
"As a kid on set, you’re expected to act like an adult until you’re on camera. Then you’re a kid until everybody is mad at you because you’re acting like a kid. Now it’s cool to be an adult and be able to give my opinion and have a bit more ownership over characters. I’ve really enjoyed sitting down with producers and pitching all my ideas."
UPDATE: Grace has since taken to Instagram to clarify her comments.
"The two quotes being used right now in these titles are unrelated. I said at this point in my career I think I'm uncomfortable doing something but I respect everyone who does - and I also have a dream job! I'm not uncomfortable doing nude scenes/hyper sexual roles simply because 'I want to be a Disney princess', it's just because of my own personal boundaries and the level of comfortability I have with that sort of thing right now at this point in my life!
Silly that it's become such a source of conversation! So many more important things to talk about."
Grace is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so we're sure she'll get the opportunity to play a Disney Princess sooner rather than later.
From acclaimed director Francis Lawrence, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping follows sixteen-year-old Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada) from District 12, beginning on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Annual Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, the biggest Games yet with twice as many tributes.
Set in the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, the story follows Haymitch into the arena, where he forms an unlikely alliance with fellow tribute Maysilee Donner (Mckenna Grace) and joins a coalition determined to challenge the Capitol’s control under President Snow (Ralph Fiennes). As the competition unfolds, Haymitch risks everything to take down the Games from within the arena — setting in motion the rebellion that will change Panem forever.
Based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, the movie also stars Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. Produced by Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and Francis Lawrence. Screenplay by Billy Ray and Michael Lesslie.
