It's showtime!
We recently reported on the rumor that Stranger Things standout Sadie Sink was in talks to star in the planned Beetlejuice sequel, but negotiations seemingly fell through, as another actress is now said to be circling the same role.
After Jeff Sneider shared the rumor on the Hot Mic podcast earlier tonight, THR has now confirmed that the sequel is officially moving forward with Jenna Ortega (Scream VI, Wednesday) in line to play one of the lead roles.
If the deal goes through, Ortega will play the daughter of Winona Ryder's character from the original, Lydia Dietz.
Tim Burton will be back behind the camera, and Michael Keaton is expected to reprise his role as the titular Bio-Exorcist. Sneider believes Catherine O'Hara is also set to return as Lydia's mother, but that's yet to be confirmed.
Alec Baldwin is not expected to return as Adam Maitland (due to his recent legal troubles), and there's no word on Geena Davis.
Rememory and Marvel's Runaways scribe Mike Vukadinovich was hired to pen a new draft of the script back in 2017, but it sounds like the studio will be starting from scratch with a brand-new story. As far as we know, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg are still on board as producers.
As cool as it would be to get the whole gang back together for another Bettlejuice movie, some feel too much time has passed and they should let this particular ghost with the most rest in peace. What do you guys think?
