We recently learned that Scream VI directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, aka Radio Silence, have signed on to helm a mysterious "monster movie" for Universal Pictures, and the project has now found its lead.

The trades (via FearHQ.com) are reporting that Melissa Barrera (the new Scream movies, In The Heights) is set to re-team with the duo on the untitled film.

Details on the horror project are practically non-existent, but it sounds like it will be based on one of Universal's classic monster properties.

Deadline describes the movie as "a unique take on legendary monster lore and will represent a fresh, new direction for how to celebrate these classic characters."

Dracula has been covered with the likes of Renfield and The Last Voyage of the Demeter, and we know Universal is also developing projects based on the likes of Frankenstein, the Wolfman, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon, so we'll be very interested to find out more about this one.

Radio Silence will direct with Chad Villella serving as producer alongside William Sherak, Paul Neinstein and James Vanderbilt at Project X Entertainment. The script was written by Stephen Shields, with revisions by Guy Busick.

@DocSpock - Whatever gets Melissa Barrera more screen time. I would watch her in almost anything.

Looks like Scream 7 won't be coming out for a while.

@defenderofthefaith -

They are following the pattern of the original trilogy.

Scream 2 came out one year after the first.

Scream 6 came out 1 year after the 5th.

So I'm guessing scream 7 will be out 3 years after 6💁

A remake of The Creature From The Black Lagoon could be cool, if done right.

It's probably Bride of Frankenstein, it was one of the projects Universal was desperately trying to make since The Mummy (Cruise) was in production.

@Spoken - The victim of a violent assault arrives at the emergency room. She is brain dead. Then, she is subjected to an experimental process of neural electroresuscitation to stop the deterioration and resume brain activity. Dr. Frankenstein has developed the experimental process and he hopes that her patient will remember the assault so that she can provide clues that facilitate the arrest of the assailants. During the long time that the Doctor is with his patient, they fall in love.

When she remembers the assault and can identify the assailants, she wants revenge. Finally, the doctor and the police collaborate to stop "the bride of Frankenstein".
