Sean S. Cunningham talks FRIDAY THE 13TH TV series

Last month it was revealed that Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment are in development of a new Friday the 13th TV series.

Sean S. Cunningham, director of the original, confirmed that he will be executive producer. The show is possibly going to relationship of Jason Voorhees and his mother Pamela in flashbacks. Cunningham confirms that it will be set at Camp Crystal Lake. "It's premature to say how the stories will involve the Pamela/Jason relationship but we have some very exciting ideas of what we'd like the show to be and some new themes we're going to include. But that's all hush hush at the moment." Cunningham confirms the show does take place at Camp Crystal Lake. "I can say the show does take place at Crystal Lake and Jason will most certainly let his presence be known." He is then asked if Tommy Jarvis (Survivor of parts 4,5, and 6) might be show up in some way. Cunningham smiles and says,"I'm sorry. Who? Stay Tuned." Does this mean everyone's favorite Friday the 13th protagonist might show up? Cunningham goes on to talk about what kind of Jason we will get. Will we get Hockey mask Jason? Baghead Jason? He assures us that fans will be satisfied, "Jason Voorhees will be an integral part of the series and he will definitely be 'in character [laughs]'. As we wrestle with the passage of time a new issue became how did Jason age? Did he age at all or is he the same age as he was back in the day? Fortunately our special effects team led by Bill Basso, Jordu Schell, and Roy Knyrim are on the case. Their work is amazing and the end result is both disturbing and fitting with the story we're trying to tell. We will be releasing more information around Comic-Con. [Laughing to himself] Baghead Jason! Gotta love it."

Is it part of canon? "We'll have to wait and see! I don't want to be cute, but that's one of the core issues which will define us. How can we balance all that's gone before with something new and pertinent today? But we are certainly not turning our back on what fans know and love about Friday the 13th.What about Elias Voorhees? "Questions about Jason's father and other characters that haven't been introduced represent both an oppurtunity and a challenge for the writers. Learning more about Jason's father would certainly qualify as a great oppurtunity. And to put the record straight, those stories that have been floating around about
Jason and Pamela and a virgin birth are just so wrong!

I mean the films were yeah, decent horror movies, they certainly became iconic, but I really don't see a viewership in this series, I might be wrong ofcourse

This sounds interesting. I wonder if will take place in the same universe as the 2015 reboot. More people should really watch Hannibal, though. It's an amazing, critically acclaimed show that is getting shitty ratings.

I will be checking this one out, sounds interesting besides Friday the 13th has been done to death in films maybe TV is a good way to refresh the franchise and give more breathing room to go deeper into the Voorhees family's background. I just hope they don't portray the young Jason as a bald freaky retard kid like Freddy VS Jason did, a kid with some mental mummy issues maybe the disfigurement comes after his death.

@ darkknight2149

I'm just glad that Hannibal is still on the air it would be a shame to see another great series get canceled while so much junk TV shows keep getting renewed.
