SPIRAL: FROM THE BOOK OF SAW Trailer Finds Chris Rock On The Trail Of A Jigsaw Copycat

When it was first announced that Chris Rock had pitched and signed on to produce and star in a Saw reboot for Lionsgate, some figured it must be a spoof or, at the very least, something completely different from the previous entries in the horror franchise.

Well, the full trailer for upcoming reboot/sequel Spiral: From The Book of Saw is now online, and it's clear from the first shot that this is playing it dead straight.

Chris Rock stars as a detective who is targeted by what appears to be a Jigsaw copycat killer (firstly establishing Spiral as a follow-up to the original franchise), and is forced to play a new "game" which involves his father (Samuel L. Jackson) and, seemingly, most of the cops in his precinct.

This doesn't look like it has much interest in bringing anything new to the table, but if you're a fan of the previous Saw movies, the trailer should certainly grab your attention.

A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in SPIRAL, the terrifying new chapter from the book of SAW. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.

Spiral: From The Book of Saw is set to slice its way into theaters on May 14.

@Kumkani - Man covid realy messed us up. I can't keep track of movies that have either been delayed or have been released under the radar. I had to google Antlers the other day to make sure I didn't miss it.

Well this is a shame. I loved the first trailer and thought it looked like somethjng original and fresh that was inspired by the clever plot of the first. But this trailer looks like more of thr same. Didnt they do 12 sequels about pig wearing shitty nobody cares apprentices of the original guy? And I love Chris Rock but his acting in this trailer seems off.

The first and second Saw movies had decent plots And [frick]ing awesome twist endings, and the torture was a part of the story, not the whole point. Every one after that was tacky torture porn. I made it to the fifth one then skipped the next bunch. Googled what happened and it was just more apprentices backstabbing each other.

@FernHill

Yeah... actors acting, weird and innovative concept.

@FernHill - I'd watch the hell out of Kate McKinnon in Hellraiser. Well, a good one that is. Most of the sequels sucked.

Actually, I'd watch your first 2 suggestions too if they got slaughtered.

Damn, I thought this would be based on Junji Ito's work.

I want to see Chris Rock in Deadpool 3. Maybe playing Wide's mutant friend. For example Leech.

Or a Morlock. Maybe Shatter.

Chris Rock's acting in this trailer seems weird as [frick]!
The only good Saw was the first one, everything after became "more convoluted ways to torture and kill people - the movie".

May is kind of a weird release month for a Saw movie.

The voice-over in the voice-changer at the end sounds like a woman's voice. Interesting.

Kind of a waste they didn't use Tobin Bell as the voice, would have given the guy some work.

The fact that this film is being released in May and we've only had two trailers for this film (the first trailer came out sometime last year I think) is for me a huge freaking red flag. As is the fact that Lionsgate is choosing to start promoting this film at the very last minute which to me says that either this film is pretty bad or that the marketing team for this film is just being super freaking lazy but that's just what I think anyways.

I know he’s in a lot of straight to video crap because he’ll say yes to anything, but there’s still something about seeing Sam Jackson in a Saw movie that just feels... wrong.

When this was first announced it sounded like it would be a full on reboot with Chris Rock starring and writing like the new Halloween. Finding out it's in the same continuity and being directed by the guy who did saw 2-4 made this go way down on my excited list. Still want to see it though. I love saw for how stupid and ridiculous it can get

This looks really bad. I thought it would be different with a new style and look. Nope, same look with Chris Rock yell acting
