Things are being shaken up over at CW's veteran series Supernatural. Sera Gamble, who has been a part of the hit series since it first aired has opted to not renew her contract and will be stepping down after the current season comes to an end and Deadline reports that Jeremy Carver will be taking over as co-showrunner. Gamble has served as executive producer alongside Robert Singer for the past two seasons. The duo took over the show after Eric Kripke stepped down after the 5th season, when his "story" was completed.
Carver, who has previously worked on the show has been working on SyFy's series Being Human with his wife Anna Fricke. The team wrote the
series which is based on the British series of the same name. The CW has yet to make a formal announcement that the seires has been renewed for an eighth season, but being that they have made this move, I'd suspect that the announcement is imminent.
Supernatural follows the Winchester brothers (Jensen Ackles & Jared Padalecki) as the rid the world of the demons, monsters and ghosts that we only thought were stories. Along the way, they must deal with elements and characters of biblical proportions. All set to a back drop of killer classic rock.
This worries me a bit, to be honest. I'm a huge fan of the series, but ever since the "demon/angel" storyline came to a close after season five, the show seems to be going in an endless circle of nonsense. While the show is still entertaining, it is missing the elements that made the series so fun in the beginning. The humor and wittiness of the characters is almost non-existent and I miss the days of just hunting. I just hope the show doesn't delve into the realm of
Smallville and just renew for the sake of renewing.
