While adaptations based off of Stephen King properties have escalated in quanitity over the past few years, 2019 may be their most prolific yet. With Pet Sematary hitting theaters this Spring, It: Chapter 2 making its way in the fall, and the newly announced November date for Doctor Sleep, the level of excitement for these films have become a testament to King's influence on the page and on the big screen.
Yesterday Warner Bros. revealed the new premiere date for Doctor Sleep. The adaptation of Stephen King's acclaimed The Shining sequel will serve as a spiritual successor to Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece, in addition to the novel. The horror film will drop November 8th 2019 domestically.
As an event that was previously set for January of 2020, it shows confidence that Warner Bros. took the film out of the dreaded month, opting to release right after Halloween instead. Director Mike Flanagan, who directed all of The Haunting Of Hill House last year, will no doubt deliver a serviceable sequel. With a strong fanbase watching, the pressure is through the roof for the creative. The film features Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson as leads.
