Legendary's planned remake of Troma's The Toxic Avenger has found its female lead in the form of Taylour Page, who recently received an NAACP Image Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. Her other credits include White Boy Rick and A24's upcoming stripper saga, Zola.

No details on her role were provided, but we assume she'll be playing Toxie's blind love-interest (Andree Maranda's Sara in the original).

We found out back in 2018 that Toxie was set to get a new lease of life at Legendary Pictures when the studio acquired the rights to Troma's mutated cult hero, and more recently, news broke that none other than Game of Thrones alum Peter Dinklage would be the one to pick up the mop and make it his mission to strike fear into New Jersey's criminal underbelly as the Toxic Avenger.

Jacob Tremblay (Room, The Predator) will also star, presumably as Toxie's son.

The Toxic Avenger was first introduced in the 1984 movie of the same name from indie studio Troma Entertainment, and has since gone on to achieve cult status with several sequels, a comic book series and even a children's animated show called The Toxic Crusaders.

It sounds like this contemporary take will follow the same basic premise as the original, as "a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste and is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends, and his community from the forces of corruption and greed."

Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore) is set to helm the project, with the first film's directors Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz on board as producers.

The only way to do this is to do it totally over the top and make it as "offensive" as possible, which of course, can't be done in today's social/political climate in the U.S.

Making a "safe" Toxic Avenger flick kinda totally defeats the entire purpose, but I assuming that's exactly what they'll end up doing.

Good for her. Ma Rainey's Black Bottom was great.

This movie is going to completely miss the appeal of the original as a schlocky r-rated b movie
