Yet another short story from Stephen King's Night Shift is making its way to the screen, with a feature adaptation of The Boogeyman in the works from 20th Century Studios. The project is being developed for the Hulu streaming service.
Yellowjackets breakout Sophie Thatcher, who recently appeared in an episode of The Book of Boba Fett, is set to star alongside Chris Messina (I Care A Lot, Birds of Prey). Rob Savage (Host) will direct, with 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Dan Cohen producing. Mark Heyman is writing the script, which is based on an original draft by Scott Beck, Bryan Woods and Akela Cooper.
The original story focused on a man who visits a psychiatrist after coming to believe that his children were murdered by an evil entity known as the Boogeyman, but it sounds like this version is going to take things in a very different direction.
Thatcher will play "a teenage girl who is still reeling from the tragic death of her mother, who, along with her little brother, finds herself plagued by a sadistic presence in their house and struggles to get her grieving father to pay attention before it’s too late."
Production is scheduled to begin later this month.
