IRONHEART Disney+ Series Rumored To Be Scheduled For Production Late Next Year

Last year, a rumor did the rounds that Marvel was developing a Disney+ series focusing on Riri Williams, aka Ironheart, and a new report is now claiming that production is scheduled for late 2021...

Last November, we reported on a rumor that an Ironheart series was in the works for the Disney+ streaming service, and now we may have an update on the show's status.

According to The Cinema Spot, the series is now in "active development," and Marvel Studios is eyeing a possible late 2021 shoot-date. The report claims to be an exclusive, but, again, this is not the first we've heard of Marvel's (potential) small-screen plans for Riri Williams.

Apparently, the studio is taking pitches right now, but no writer has been "formerly attached as showrunner" yet.

How much stock should we put in this? Well, both sources have been hit and miss in the past, but Williams has become very popular since she debuted back in 2015, so Marvel introducing the character to serve as an eventual replacement for Tony Stark/Iron Man moving forward in the MCU would certainly make sense.

If true, Ironheart could go on to join the likes of Stature, Kate Bishop and Wiccan in the Young Avengers - a series which is also rumored to be coming to Disney+ at some point.

What do you make of this latest rumor? Would you be interested in an Ironheart Disney+ series? Let us know in the comments, and keep an eye on CBM for updates.

@BlackBeltJones - Are they reliable? Don’t think I’ve ever heard of them before.

@Godzillakartt -
A show based on Marvel's worst legacy character is "pretty sweet?"

Honestly, it's difficult to believe that the creator of Miles Morales and Jessica Jones is also responsible for such awful characters as Ironheart and Rogaal Zaar.

I haven't read her book but her run in Iron Man was pretty fun.

@Godzillakartt - She is a black young teen superhero, so that means they are forcing diversity down our throats and pandering to SJWs. /s

@Toonstrack - No, the character in and of itself is poorly written. If you believe otherwise, I suspect you haven't even picked up her comic book.

@Toonstrack -
Yeah, because everyone feels that way about Miles Morales, Sam Wilson/Captain America IV, Black Panther, the X-Men, Jessica Jones, and all the other diverse, young, or coloured characters in Marvel's library. Even Jane Foster as Thor, while a bad idea (Thor is the guy's name, not an identity), made up for it with Jason Aaron's writing.

@Franshu -
Exactly this. The character was poorly written, poorly conceived, and came at a time when Marvel was pumping out constant legacy characters, events, relaunches, deaths, publicity stunts, MCU-styled retcons, ETC. Every two years, Marvel pulled some brand new "New 52/Marvel NOW" nonsense that killed off/replaced 50 different superheroes and sent all of the comics back to issue #1.

To make it even dumber, Ironheart was introduced around the same time Doctor Doom became the new Iron Man. So on top of everything else, she was a superfluous legacy character. I would rather they make a Disney Plus show about Pepper Potts as Iron Man's successor, or something like that. Marvel has an endless supply of diverse characters that are actually good, so there's no need to scrape the bottom of the barrel with Ironheart.

@Franshu - people hated her way before her comic even came out.

@Darkknight2149 - Bro Miles was complained about extensively when he forst debuted as did Sam Wilson Cap. Black Panther has only just hit the mainstream and his movie was solid so only the most serious of trolls even touch that one. Have you not seen people complaining about Ice Man being gay, Laura Kinney Wolverine and so on and so forth? Im not saying everyone who dislikes the character dislikes her for that reason but you hsve to be kidding me if you think that those people arent out there. Go look up Riri on Youtube backed from when she was first introduced as a new Iron Man character and come back to me.

Don't even have a proper animation of Iron Man since the 90's, a character that has just as much history as Spider-Man yet an. animated show of Iron Heart who's existed for all of 5 minutes.

Jeebus I hope not. I've had my fill of Ironman. We still have Iron Man Jr on the scene and Shuri, who is more interesting and fills a lot of that same void.
