A snippet of Joss Whedon's commencement speech to Wesleyan University (his alma matter) graduates. Joss also received an honorary doctorates. You can read the full transcript at Tor.com.
"Two roads diverged in a wood and…” No! I’m not that lazy.

I sat through many graduations. When I was sitting where you guys [Wesleyan class of 2013] are sitting the speaker was Bill Cosby. He was very funny and he was very brief and I thank him for that. He gave us a message that I really took with me, and that a lot of us never forgot, about changing the world. He said, “You’re not gonna change the world, so don’t try.”

That was it! He didn’t buy that back at all. And then he complained about buying his daughter a car and then we left. And I remember thinking…you know I think I can do better. I think I can be a little more inspiring than that.

So, what I’d like to say to all of you is that you are all going to die."

Actor Michael Shannon who plays General Zod in the upcoming Man of Steel Superman remake toys around here with the notion of playing 007 after Daniel Craig.

Actress Gwendoline Christie discusses her role as Brienne of Tarth on HBO's Game of Thrones [via the Sean T.Collins of Rolling Stone].

"Brienne is very focused on a moral code, on the good of the world around her and what is right. But in their bathtub scene, she recognizes [Jamie Lannister's] humanity, and his own struggle with what it is to be honorable. She's also seeing something of him in her – she's seeing his striving for the good of all, to an extent. It's a revelatory moment. It really expands Brienne's mind, shows her not to regard everything as being quite so black and white. We start to see the complexity of a person's mind developing.

Do I think they will get together? [Laughs] I mean, it's very . . . The world of Game of Thrones, the world that George R.R. Martin has created and that Dan [Weiss] and David [Benioff]'s translation adapts brilliantly, is a world that's never straightforward. I genuinely have moments of absolutely no idea. I don't even know if I want them to, because what they're experiencing is a bond that is quite unusual and quite pure bond. He did come back and save her life, which is enormous. I think it makes us examine a lot of possibilities and angles of what love is, and what love makes us capable of.

And Brienne is a virgin and Jamie has only slept with his sister, so . . . [Laughs]."

As for Joss' speech, he should have told the graduating class, "Smash."
