6 Most Likely Possibilities For Those Two Newly Announced UNTITLED DC FILMs

With WB dating two mystery DC Comics adaptations for 2018 and 2019, it's clear they have big plans for this universe, and you can bet your life that two of these properties will end up on the big screen...

Yesterday, Warner Bros. revealed that two Untitled DC Films are on the way on October 5th, 2018 and November 1st, 2019, and speculation about what those might be instantly began running rampant. The studio already has ten movies lined up for release between now and 2020, and while many fans are doubting how many of those will happen (a Cyborg movie; seriously?), it now seems like we're getting those and a couple more besides as they're clearly confident in the success of this world.

Flops like Jupiter Ascending and Pan are more than likely why Warner Bros. are banking on the success of these DC Comics adaptations, but adding two more to their current slate is still a ballsy move on their part. So, what on Earth could these two releases be? There are a handful of possibilities, and what you'll find here are six of the most likeliest options. Chances are that each of these properties will be on the big screen at some point in the near future, but it's probably going to be two of these!

6. Birds Of Prey

loading

With Black Canary expected to appear in Justice League, a Birds of Prey movie could be the logical next step for Warner Bros., especially if Wonder Woman ends up being a hit and proves that moviegoers are every bit as interested in female led superhero movies as they are ones with male leads.

Depending on whether or not Jena Malone really is playing Barbara Gordon, she could definitely find a place here, while throwing Harley Quinn (a character you can pretty much bet your life will be the breakout star of Suicide Squad) into the mix would also work.

The studio tried and failed to make a TV series out of this some years ago, but a big screen version today has a ton of potential and could make for a very refreshing change of pace after more Avengers movies and the Justice League

5. The Crime Syndicate

loading

While it's great to see Spider-Man in the MCU, 2016 would have been a whole lot more interesting had Sinister Six been released as planned. After all, that and Suicide Squad succeeding may have shaken up the genre enough that more villain led releases would follow, but it's now up to just that DC Comics adaptation to guage people's interest in the bad guys.

If Suicide Squad does work, then I wouldn't be surprised to see The Crime Syndicate follow. Batman v Superman and The Flash have confirmed the existence of a Multiverse, so paying a visit to a planet ruled over by evil versions of some familiar faces would be a lot of fun, though admittedly a tough one to cast (do you bring in Ben Affleck as Owlman or go a different route?). Regardless, this one could also lead to an epic Justice League crossover.

4. The Batman

loading

It was during Comic-Con weekend last year that Deadline reported that Ben Affleck was writing The Batman with Geoff Johns, but the expected official announcement during Warner Bros.' Hall H panel never came.
Last month, Affleck remained coy on the chances of a solo outing for the Dark Knight during the Batman v Superman press tour, and it became clear that both the studio and director were waiting to see how that movie did before committing to anything.

Well, while it may not have been a critical success, Affleck's Batman was singled out as one of the best things about Dawn of Justice by many critics and it's done well at the box office to boot, so now you have to believe that one of these slots has been put aside for this long overdue solo outing.

It's just a matter of which date it takes...

3. A Sequel

loading

I hate to be boring, but a sequel is definitely one of the most likely options for one or both of these release dates. Suicide Squad is pretty much finished and production on Wonder Woman is well underway, so depending on how happy Warner Bros. are with them so far, it makes sense that they might already be thinking about follow-ups.

The scheduled release dates work perfectly for both of these movies anyway, and if neither of them ends up performing that well, the studio can easily shift some other releases around or just ditch these slots altogether.

With so much competition from Marvel Studios' ever expanding slate though, it's definitely a smart move to reserve a couple of prime spots for sequels just in case. However, something tells me that we won't be getting Batman v Superman 2...

2. Green Arrow: Escape from Super Max

loading

Perhaps this is just wishful thinking on my part, but this is a movie which needs to happen. For those of you unfamiliar with the project, Super Max was set to revolve around a wrongly imprisoned Green Arrow attempting to escape from a facility housing villains like The Joker, Lex Luthor, and The Riddler, while Amanda Waller would have also been involved. You're starting to see how this could work in the current DC Films Universe, right?

With some tweaks to the script, this could sit as a perfect companion piece to Suicide Squad and would be unlike any other superhero movie we've seen before. It would also be a good use of the Green Arrow character, especially with season four of Arrow so far shaping up to be another major disappointment for fans of the Emerald Archer.

1. Man Of Steel 2

loading

Batman v Superman was pretty much a Man of Steel sequel, but Superman deserves his own movie...without Zack Snyder at the helm. Just like seeing Ben Affleck tackle Batman will be a refreshing change of pace, so too would a new filmmaker taking a crack at Superman after four movies with Snyder overseeing the hero's adventures.

While I'm not saying that there needs to be a massive tonal shift or anything too drastic in regards to how this version of the character is portrayed, a fresh pair of eyes being used to explore Superman's world would be great, especially if it leads to the introduction of some of his more colourful foes from the comics.

Warner Bros. can't credit all of Batman v Superman's success to the former, so the Man of Steel has to be a top contender for one of these slots.

Which of these movies would you like to see become a reality? Have we missed any you think will be released come 2018/2019? As always, let us know your thoughts in the usual place.

I would love a Hitman Tommy Monaghan CBM, that would be a natural answer to Deadpool in comedy and violence and audiences would love Tommy! as an extra Section 8.
