Confirming previously reported news, director Zack Snyder appeared on Beyond the Trailer and stated that Jared Leto will indeed be reprising his controversial role as the Joker in his director's cut of Justice League, but he apparently won't be exactly as audiences remember from David Ayer's 2016 Suicide Squad film.

"It is true," said Snyder on Leto joining the cast, before adding, "I wanted to of course honor what had been created with him because I thought it was really cool; but also in this, I'm not going to tell you what happens in the little scene, but some water has gone under the proverbial bridge between when last we saw Joker and this appearance. So he's made some...he's a road-weary Joker, I guess that's a way of saying it."

Snyder then went on to add, "I will say that he was really gracious with his entertaining my idea and I told him it was a thing that I had felt like even when I was working on Justice League in London I felt like was an inevitable course that the movie had to take.  So when I told him it was a thing that I'd been kicking around in my head for quite a while I feel like he just kinda warmed up to the idea that was kind of an inevitable thing that kinda of has to happen. I am grateful and I am forever in debt to his kindness for doing it."

After a very intense three-year fan campaign dubbed on social media as #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, Warner Bros. surprised fans in May by announcing that Zack Snyder's Justice League would be released on HBO Max. The film is currently scheduled to debut on the streaming service in early/mid-2021 as a 4-part miniseries, with each episode running for roughly one hour. Following the release of the last episode, HBO Max will then release the project as a 4-hr long movie.

Joining Leto in Snyder's additional footage shot this past October were Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher, Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amber Hear, and and Joe Manganiello.
