Henry Cavill's appearance in
Justice League was widely ridiculed because of the laughable CGI mouth he was given to hide his
Mission: Impossible - Fallout moustache. Still, a lot of fans appreciated the lighter take on the Man of Steel Joss Whedon delivered and an argument could definitely be made that we got the most comic accurate version of Supes on the big screen to date.
Now, the filmmaker has taken to social media to praise Cavill, describing him as the best version of the character since Christopher Reeve in the original series of
Superman movies.
He also notes that Cavill has the potential to take the top spot "with the right material/barber" and it seems as if Whedon is taking a tongue in cheek shot at the controversy surrounding the moustache. It sounds like the writer/director doesn't believe he had the right material to achieve this, however.
All the signs are currently pointing to Cavill not returning as Superman and it really doesn't sound like the hero is a priority for Warner Bros. for the time being (which definitely feels like a mistake).
