Zack Snyder's Justice League contains several plot points that set up sequels we're never likely to see, but (arguably) the biggest relates to Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and the possibility that she's carrying Superman's child.
Fans spotted a pregnancy test in Lois' apartment during the epilogue, and she could also be seen holding what looked a lot like a baby cot/bassinet as she stood on the porch of Kent Farm towards the end of the movie. These were taken as not-so-subtle hints that the character is pregnant, and Snyder has now confirmed as much.
During an interview with Esquire, the filmmaker was asked if this fan-theory is correct, and replied: "She's definitely pregnant." Snyder didn't elaborate, but we already know what this would have led to.
Had Snyder been given the chance to continue this story, Lois would have given birth to a boy named Bruce Kent, who would ultimately end up taking up the cape and cowl of The Batman after Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) sacrificed himself to save the rest of the team. Oh, and the plan was for Barbara Gordon to step in as Gotham's Caped Crusader until Kent was old enough!
"You see, I always wanted Barbara Gordon to come in the movies," Snyder reveals. "Commissioner Gordon would be on the way out, and we'd have Barbara starting to play a bigger role. My idea was that after Batman sacrificed himself, there would be a window where there was no Batman, and I thought Barbara could fill that until the child of Superman and Lois, who has no powers, would become Batman when he was of age."
Again, the chances of Snyder getting the opportunity to helm a direct sequel to Justice League seem slim, but he's not completely ruling out the possibility.
"I mean, it's a fun thing to think about. I don't know if it's a reality," said Snyder when asked about any potential sequels or spin-offs. "I know that the studio doesn't really have any interest, clearly, in doing another movie with me. I also know that it's a product. And the market kind of decides in the end, you know what I'm saying? But I would be very surprised if that happened. Of course, I'm surprised that this happened so it's hard to say."
What do you guys think? Would you like to see Snyder return to the DC Films Universe?
