Marvel has a new series of animated short films in the works which will focus on some of their more obscure or up-and-coming characters, including the likes of Ms. Marvel, America Chavez, and Victor Kohl.

Each short will revolve around Gwen Stacy, here going by the moniker Ghost-Spider, and will build towards a feature-length film titled Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors

Marvel has assembled quite a cast for this project, which will see Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actress Chloe Bennet reprising the role of Quake, and our new live-action Squirrel Girl Milana Vayntrub lending her voice to Doreen Green.

Check out the press release below, along with a promo image and video:

Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors is a long-anticipated event, bringing together Marvel’s newest and beloved characters that have garnered major fan excitement over the last few years. Powered teens Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Quake, Patriot, America Chavez, and Inferno join forces as an unlikely, but formidable crew of aspiring heroes. When a threat no one could have expected bears down on the Marvel Universe, this ragtag, untrained band of teens have no choice but to rise together and prove to the world that sometimes the difference between a “hero” and “misfit” is just in the name.

“Marvel characters are so relatable because they live in our world and face the same challenges we do. So I’m very excited that our Marvel Rising team of heroes is so inclusive, reflecting characters with different backgrounds, particularly a set of strong female leads that our young audience can connect with,” said Cort Lane, Marvel’s Senior Vice President of Animation & Family Entertainment.

Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors is part of a new, multi-platform animated franchise starring the next generation of Marvel heroes set to launch in 2018. The program will launch with six, four-minute digital shorts (which will follow Spider-Gwen with her new secret moniker, Ghost-Spider). Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors will premiere later in 2018.

I like the artwork, and that they’re using the live action actors for the voices of Quake and Squirrel Girl. Spider-Gwen is “Ghost Spider”, Eh? I figured that she needed her own name, and that’s not bad... both for her look, and for the fact that she’d dead in regular Marvel continuity.

Marvel’s animation post EMH has been underwhelming, my expectations are low for this.

Happy for #MarvelRising and all, but why is Spider-Gwen's unmasked face that of Gwenpool, or at the very least, why does she have Gwenpool's hair? They do realize that they are in fact two different characters right? Gwenpool is not Gwen Stacy or an alternate version of her. She just happens to be named Gwen and is blonde.

I don't expect this to be good but...maybe it will be, who knows.
