Marvel Studios Is Reportedly Developing An ILLUMINATI Project Based On Brian Michael Bendis' Comic Book

Avengers writer Brian Michael Bendis introduced the Illuminati and even gave the team their own series, and a new report now claims that Marvel Studios are in the early stages of bringing them to the MCU.

The Marvel Comics version of the Illuminati was introduced by comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis and consisted of heroes like Iron Man, Professor X, Namor the Submariner, Black Bolt, Doctor Strange, and Mister Fantastic. Not only were they responsible for sending The Hulk into outer space (leading to World War Hulk), but they also interfered in a number of big events.

Simply put, they pulled the strings of everyone in the Marvel Universe, and came across in an almost villainous light on occasion. It proved to be a fascinating concept, and a group of bad guys known as the Cabal was later established to counter them (made up of names like Norman Osborn, Doctor Doom, and Loki).

The usually very reliable folks over at The Illuminerdi are reporting that they've seen a cast listing revealing that a project of some sort revolving around the Illuminati is in the very early stages of development.

It's unclear whether this is a movie or TV show, but it's hard not to get excited about what it could mean for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and which characters will be assembling to secretly control this shared world. What we do know is that Iron Man won't be a member after his death in Avengers: Endgame. There is, however, plenty of potential for the other team members.

It could be a while before we hear anything official, but we'll be sure to keep you guys updated!

This is bittersweet news. The Illuminati is the one thing I've always wanted in the MCU, but now that Stark is gone, it just won't be the same.

I wonder if they'll change the name to avoid correlation with the real world conspiracy theory?

@MCUKnight11 - The real world conspiracy theory was why they chose the name in the first place.

@RolandD - Same with Chitauri. For those that don't know, David Icke believes the Royal family in the UK, the Bush family, etc. are green, shapeshifting reptiles from outer space named Chitauri. When Mark Millar did The Ultimates, he named his version of the Skrulls, Marvel's green alien shapeshifters, "Chitauri" as a joke about Icke.

Then Marvel put the Chitauri in one of the biggest films ever, although ironically removing the shapeshifting element so they could do the proper Skrulls one day. There are David Icke message boards from 2012 of people freaking out that Marvel would dare release a movie that revealed there are alien Chitauri who want to rule the world, unaware Marvel / Millar got the name FROM Icke.

Yeah... I‘ll believe this one when I see it myself considering that line-up has one character introduced, one character dead, one character from a TV show that is certain to be ignored, and 3 characters that have yet to be introduced and certainly wouldn’t first appear in *this*.

Wonder who would replace Iron Man. Hopefully they just take the basic idea, cause yeah the way they acted in the comics, during the whole Civil War era was pretty terrible
Thor clone that killed Goliath
sending hulk to space, and being at least partically responsible for what happened on that planet
putting heroes in the negative Zone.
Hulk was right about them

I simply can't imagine Feige greenlighting any Bendis related story, unless it's just the subtitle for the next Avengers movie and be ridiculously loosely based.

Another week, another Marvel project rumored to be in development. Throw enough shit at the wall and you're bound to get something right, eventually

If the enemies of this are the Cabal, that would be awesome.
