Before Universal's big-screen Van Helsing reboot gets underway, SyFy will premiere their take on the adventures of the heroic vampire slayer. This version will be set in the future, and focuses on the original character's daughter Vanessa (Kelly Overton), who is resurrected into a world overrun by blood-suckers.

"Van Helsing represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules,” said Chad Oakes, Co-Chairman of Nomadic Pictures. “The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival.”

Van Helsing also stars Jonathan Scarfe (Hell on Wheels), Christopher Heyerdahl (Stargate Atlantis, Hell on Wheels), Paul Johansson (Mad Men), David Cubitt (Ray Donovan) and Tim Guinee (Stargate SG-1, Homeland), and will premiere this Autumn. Neil LaBute (yes, really) will serve as writer/showrunner.
