Lobo, Adrenalynn, Wonder Woman and Aliens vs Predator...

Joel Silver always has a lot on his slate, so when he did the press rounds for Gothika, we spent a little bit of time discussing some upcoming comic book properties he’s working on.

Are you still doing Lobo? It’s in the works. You have to realize, these PG-13 [expectations], it’s hard for me to pull these movies into PG-13. A movie like Lobo, it’s going to be hard to make that PG-13 and it’s really kind of a kids’ movie, a young male movie. So it’s a weird time now that you have these big expensive films that need to be [accessible to teens]. Look, I’ve stayed making R-rated movies and I’ve done pretty well but I’ve got to be conscious of the facts. Scary Movie 3 is the biggest one they’ve ever had and it’s PG-13. So Lobo really is a complicated project.

How about Adrenalynn and Wonder Woman? I’m not involved with Adrenalynn anymore and Wonder Woman I want to make. I’m working on the script. We’ve got to get it right.

How do you make a comic book movie different? We have a lot of good ideas, a lot of fresh ideas. I’m not going to really start it until I know we’ve got it.

What do you think of your Predator fighting Aliens? I’m not involved with it. I want to see it. I’m anxious to see the movie, but I don't know. It’s hard. I feel that making sequels is a difficult business unless the story continues. I’ve been involved in a lot of sequels where the movie ended and we were persuaded to make a sequel, and I thought the movies may have been successful at the box office but they weren’t successful movies. And I found that with most of the Lethal Weapon pictures.. The reason that Matrix is so effective is because the story was a trilogy. It was designed for that. I don't know, I’ve read some of the comic books of Alien vs. Predator but I don't know what they’ve done with the movie and I don't know if it’s going to be fresh and new. I made a sequel to Predator and it was just such an unpleasant picture. I liked everybody involved. It just wasn’t a good movie.
