What FOX should do to develop a shared universe.

What FOX should do to develop a shared universe.

The best way I can think of that FOX can tie their Marvel characters together in order to develop a shared universe. Involving a Fantastic 4 movie (with Namor and the Atlanteans), Nation X movie (with Cyclops in the leadership role united with Namor), X-Force movie (with January Jones as Emma Frost, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, a CGI Nightcrawler, and introducing Fantomex), Astonishing X-Men movie (with the remaining mutants trying to find the sole mutant baby since M Day), Cable movie, and culminating in a crossover event movie: 4vsX.

X-Men: Days of Future Past
Cable must be included in DOFP and remain in the present. End credit scene is a flashback to Cable’s past showing that Cyclops is his father and mentions a prophecy surrounding Cable.

Fantastic Four
Fantastic Four should introduce Namor as the villain. Identified as the first mutant, a half breed between a human and Atlantean and now ruler of the newly discovered race of ocean dwellers.

The movie opens with a Mole Man attack which is easily thwarted by the FF. The government is worried that the recent terrorist attacks on oil rigs etc by mysterious blue men will result in a similar way as the Mole Man attack and strikes the Atlanteans. The FF are sent as a peace keeping last resort and Namor falls smitten with Sue.

Military decides to attack Atlanteans after the FF are judged to be ineffective. Johnny dies in the climactic battle vs Atlanteans with massive casualties and devastation to the underwater cities. Last scene is Franklin weeping over Uncle Johnny’s death and says “No more mutants”

End credits scene is Cyclops approaching Namor with a proposition.

X-Men: Nation X
Next X-men movie is aftermath of M-Day, Cyclops assumes leadership role, has Magneto create Utopia to atone for his sins,

The proposition Cyclops had for Namor was to build a new central Atlantean city as a pillar to hold up Utopia that Magneto has summoned, and they will together defend each other from outside attack.

Climax of X-men movie is a mutant hate group attack on Utopia since all mutants live together now.

San Francisco embraces X-Men as heroes. Mayor allies to have Utopia become a sovereign state with the help of the Atlantean Treaty.

End credits scene is with Cyclops telling Wolverine to create X-Force to hunt down and kill another mutant hate threat in order to avoid the devastation of the last battle.

He is interrupted with news that cerebro detected a mutant birth!

X-Force
X-Force Movie with Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Deadpool, Fantomex, Emma Frost on their mission. Fantomex falls for Emma and sacrifices himself to save her.

End credits scene is Wolverine telling Cyclops the mission success, and no one witnessed them but what will we do for our first public appearance (mission to retrieve Hope) “We have to astonish them” Beast is revealed to have witnessed all of this and leaves the X-Men to take a position in Reed Richards’ lab in the Baxter Building.

Astonishing X-Men
Astonishing X-men is Cyclops and his rescue mission to retrieve Hope. End credits scene is Cable taking her into the future until she reaches her teens and her mutant power emerges.

Cable
Cable movie with him protecting the baby/child, end credit scene has her powers emerge. The movie focuses on the two of them alone on the run interspersed with flashbacks to Cable’s youth and training. Being raised by Cyclops and Jean in the future, but infected with a techno organic virus.

A visitor from the future convinces Scott and Jean that she alone can save him and that he is meant for great things according to the prophecy.

He is trained to use his TK to keep the virus at bay, and trained extensively.
He realizes his purpose was to protect Hope.

4vsX
Open FVX movie on Cable returning and the Fantastic Four getting to them first. Technically second though, since it is the awakened Silver Sufer who found them and Silver Sufer returning to earth set off the Fantastic Four’s censors.

Franklin is now a teenager as well and takes a liking to Hope. X-Men attack trying to retrieve Hope, but Franklin’s developing love for Hope and fear of losing her makes him actually want to reverse “No more mutants” and his curse is lifted.

I hate Hope Summers, I hope she dies in comics and never makes it to big screen.

@DrDoom - Namor and Cable can't be off limits to FOX. FOX owns rights to all mutants, and Namor would fall under FOX rights for FF alone since he is primarily a FF villain.
@MrSteiners - There would no longer be hundreds of mutants after M Day, plus Scott wouldn't risk every mutant life on this, only his extinction team.
@RedHood13 - Cyclops and Jean are dead right now in their continuity, DOFP can easily start a new timeline before Ratner's Phoenix saga.

@ferg815 No, that one is simple - Marvel just owns rights to Namor... And i would preffer Fox give back rights to FF to Marvel rather than Marvel sell them rights for Sub-Mariner. And marvel just need namor... For Iluminati, for supporting Inhummans movie maybe...

some cool ideas but i think fox need to workout first how to do the fantastic four & x-men movies correctly before trying a shared universe.

they haven't made one decent fantastic four film yet & only one x-men film out four that i can actually watch isn't good either.

Eh, Iron Man 2 wasn't that bad. Not bad at all really.

But yeah, doesn't Marvel own Namor? Pretty sure DrDoom's right about Cable too.

How about Elektra? Is she tied to Daredevil, or did Marvel just claim the Man Without Fear?

Cuz if she's still with Fox, you could have a bit with the Hand and Wolverine. Some Kitty/Jubilee adventures with Logan in Japan.

@ ferg815 It could start a new continuity, but that means someone has to go back in time first in the movie before Cable even exist then when they come back to the future Cable will appear. So there has to be someone to go back in time before Cable for him to even exist. They also need to clone Jean Grey in the past also which the movie would need to show.

I like a lot of this but obviously character rights could be an issue. I did read somewhere that Marvel has Namor, Cable on the other hand must surely have been part of the X-men universe that Fox signed.

Unlike FreakingIntelligent, I'm all for the shared universe and as has been discussed by Miller et al. so are Fox. I understand that a shared universe brings a more rigid structure for the film-makers to work within, I believe knowing that the repercussions you are watching will affect things not only in this franchise but other franchises does add a little extra weight to proceedings (and apart from the cyclical continuity overload, for the most part has worked for the comics that these movies are based on).

Anyway nice article, if Fox did try something akin to your suggestions it would be a hell of a lot better than what we have been served up so far.

Really think Micky should throw some money at Fox to get FF back at Marvel though.

No question would I love to see FF with Marvel! Reed would then be part of the Illuminati, Marvel wouldn't feel the need to alter one of their flagship titles in order for it to be appealing as a movie, and Galactus and Silver Surfer would be very welcome additions to the cosmic aspect the MCU is obviously embracing.

Fox would never do anything like this... They don't care for the characters/story.. All they want is the cash

Elektra and The Hand are with DD. Hence why The Hand aren't in The Wolverine

My only request in all this... take out January Jones as Emma Frost and replace her with Alice Eve...tell me she wouldn't make a better Emma?
