This week, Pop Jedi journies to LV-426 in honor of the 35th Anniversary of one of the greatest sci-fi horror/action films of all-time with episode 23.

1986's Aliens, the sequel to Ridley Scott's 1979 Alien, launched James Cameron and producer Gale Ann Hurd into the public spotlight, not to mention making Sigourney Weaver an A-list star and cementing Ellen Ripley as one of the most iconic and important heroines in any major franchise.

After 40 years, the Xenomorph is one of the most marketable alien designs ever created, and Aliens fans can still be found quoting characters and lines from the heart-pounding film ("Game over man!" is a personal favorite).

Join hosts Rob DiLauro, JennaSayWhat, and Di Marie as they discuss the Aliens in this week's video episode below.

Join the Pop Jedi crew next week as they analyze Harley Quinn and join the battlefield with The Suicide Squad! New half hour Pop Jedi videos land every Tuesday on the official CBM YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/comicbookmovie), so hit the subscribe button and notification/alert bell so that you don't miss an episode!

Upcoming Pop Jedi Episodes:

  • A Celebration of Harley Quinn
  • The Suicide Squad (2021) Review

Aliens is such a great movie. I think one reason it succeeded was that it did not try to copy the formula of the original, instead going to a totally different genre. The first Alien, in my opinion one of the best movies ever made, was a dark, art house horror film with a strong subtext of social commentary.

Aliens, by contrast, was an action movie first and foremost, with some pop horror for flavor. Both are great movies. Both stand on their own legs.

Great movie from a time when movies had strong female leads that were likeable,had flaws and could kick ass.

Take note Rey and Captain Marvel.

@Reeds2Much - That first movie is entirely about rape. It's so well done.

@bkmeijer - I recommend The Thing as well,classic.

Die Hard is better than Die Hard 2 but it is still good.
