The plot of Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner sequel has been shrouded in mystery for a long time, but now thanks to the recent first trailer and this batch of official stills courtesy of EW, we are starting to piece things together.

The pics feature Ryan Gosling as K, who has the same job Deckard (the returning Harrison Ford) had in the original: "retiring" artificial humans known as replicants. At some point a secret is unearthed, and K must track Deckard down in an attempt to save "what's left of society."

We also get our first look at a character named Joi (War Dogs actress Ana de Armas), who could well turn out to be a replicant.

Check out the stills along with EW's new cover below, and let us know how you think Blade Runner 2049 is shaping up.

As someone who's never seen the original Blade Runner, the trailer for 2049 gave me some Fallout 4 vibes with the way Gosling was dressed and the desert imagery, entering that.....building. It reminded of the Synths and The Institute. I guess I'll have to watch the original Blade Runner soon, though, because this movie looks great already. Dennis Villeneuve has got to me one of the best directors working today.

@MagnusShadowX - And in the fifth, Ford has a WTF am I doing here? face. He didn't even bother to put on some decent clothes for God's sake!

@TopperHarley - She's gorgeous, the movie was lousy, silly, and outright stupid most of the time.

I like that Harrison Ford is in it, but if he's not the lead then I don't really care. Gosling isn't a very versatile actor IMO.

@soberchimera - Now that I think about, he's about as versatile as Harrison Ford. I'm not saying he's no Ford, that's for damn sure, but the way they work is kind of similar. Ford has more charismatic presence and intensity though (certainly his younger performances). If you say you only see Ryan Gosling and not the character, that makes sense though.
