BOX OFFICE: Here's How Much STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Is Expected To Debut With

Jurassic World had best enjoy that record breaking debut while it still can because the early estimates are already in for Star Wars: The Force Awakens' global bow this December (and yes, we know it's only August). Hit the jump to find out how much it's expected to earn...

Common sense says that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is going to open big on December 18th, and Deadline reports that analysts are already predicting a global debut of an incredible $615 million! Jurassic World recently set the record with $524.4 million and reached $1 billion in 13 days, but the Return of the Jedi follow-up should have little trouble surpassing that, earning back its $200 million budget with ease. However, while Star Wars looks set to do well both domestically and overseas, it's set to be dealt a blow by the fact that China don't release Hollywood movies during December.

Don't fret too much though, as the trade adds that it will happen eventually, so expect it to provide a boost when it does. One exhibition president tell them, "Less than four months and counting and nothing is broken so far. All the marketing by Disney is disciplined and methodical as planned. There are no terrible stories from the set. The cast is getting along and showing up at events. J.J. Abrams has a body language about him that’s positive. The story to me is that Disney and Lucasfilm are acting rationally, confidently and not cocky. They’re going about their business instead of reacting." In other words, they know they have a hit on their hands...what do you think?

I'd be hesitant to plan with numbers too high, but if the return of the Jurassic franchise can destroy the BO like it did I guess pretty much everything goes.

Going by the reactions to the trailer in the cinema people do seem pretty damn enthusiastic about seeing the property return to form, and especially about having the old crew back.

We'll see! :D

Totally, The Force Awakens is an event, it's not just a movie, haha. Those movies really connect with everyone from all spans of life.

I still doubt this movie will take down Avatar though. I made a similar comment in a different thread earlier - it'll definitely reach $1 billion, but $2 billion will be dependent on how glowing the reviews and word-of-mouth are.

Avatar made $2.7 billion. I remember people predicting that it could get up to $3 billion. It was a massive fluke.

I just don't see it, or ANY movie for that matter, overtaking Avatar for at least another 5-10 years.

I bought my tickets to Age of Ultron two months in advance, I wonder if I'll have to buy them for The Force Awakens even earlier.

@DrKinsolving
excactly! ever since this was announced and i told ppl how excited i was for star wars, some people asked why and ive been telling them. its not just another movie, not just another addition to the franchise. this is a history that is happening. star wars is more special than alot (if not all) movie franchises. and theres evidence to back it up

@JredTheRed I don't disagree! It's a trilogy that will be appealing to THREE separate generations of fans. That's a hell of a target audience, for sure.

I wouldn't be shocked if it beats Avatar...but I just don't see it happening. I'd be thrilled to be proven wrong though.

To all of those people hoping that Star Wars will dethrone Avatar.,.Keep dreaming. Avatar was an anomaly. Something that we will never witness ever again.
