STAR WARS: Daisy Ridley Confirms She Doesn't Want To Play Rey Beyond EPISODE IX

Will Daisy Ridley really be done with the Star Wars franchise after Episode IX? With the newly announced Star Wars trilogy confirmed by Lucasfilm and Disney, the actress was asked about her future as Rey.

Earlier this month, Lucasfilm announced plans to expand the Star Wars universe with new trilogy created by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. While not much is known about this mysterious new trilogy, actress Daisy Ridley, better known around these parts of the galaxy as Rey, has made it clear she has no plans to be a part of it.

Speaking to Rolling Stone in a lengthy profile for The Last Jedi, Ridley - who became an overnight star with The Force Awakens - revealed she does not want to play the character beyond Episode IX.

"No," she told the publication, explaining, "For me, I didn't really know what I was signing on to. I hadn't read the script, but from what I could tell, it was really nice people involved, so I was just like, 'Awesome.' Now I think I am even luckier than I knew then, to be part of something that feels so like coming home now."

When asked if she might come around to playing Rey again in the future, she reiterated, "No, no, no. I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films. So in my head, it's three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out."

While it was previously implied by the higher ups at Lucasfilm and Disney that the core cast of this current trilogy - Rey, Poe Dameron, and Rey - could stick around for future films, the only thing that's known for certain is that the future for Star Wars is uncertain and in flux.  Perhaps the trilogy that Rian Johnson is envisioning is something completely different with characters we haven't yet been introduced to.  There are plenty of stories to be told in this ever-expanding universe and with JJ Abrams, who is helming the currently untitled Episode IX, treating the movie as the end of the Skywalker saga, it's possible we get a fitting goodbye to Ridley's character.

Or it's possible Ridley returns as Rey 30 years from now, as her predecessors - Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher - did with The Force Awakens. To that, Ridley responded, "Who knows? I honestly feel like the world may end in the next 30 years, so, if in 30 years we are not living underground in a series of interconnected cells ... then sure. Maybe. But again, it's like, who knows. Because the thing I thought was so amazing, was people really wanted it. And it was done by people who really love it."

Without knowing anything about The Last Jedi and Episode IX, would you want to see Rey in the next Star Wars trilogy?
