STAR WARS: Marvel Comics Has Finally Revealed The Identity Of Han Solo's Father In Disney Canon

Marvel Comics recently launched Han Solo & Chewbacca, a series set between the events of Solo: A Star Wars Story and A New Hope. Expanding on their dynamic, the latest issue just dropped a major reveal after the beloved smuggler was seemingly reunited with his long-absent father.

In the Expanded Universe canon, Han's mother and father were called Jaina and Jonash Solo, both of whom disappeared when he was just seven years old. We've never had a significant mention of the hero's parents in the official Disney canon, though the 2018 movie established that Han was an orphan who didn't even have a surname until "Solo" was given to him by an Imperial officer.

However, during a conversation with a newfound ally in the pages of Han Solo & Chewbacca, Han mentions in passing that his dad was called "Ovan" and the older gentleman - who looks a little like the late Sean Connery - clearly believes the smuggler is his son, We're expecting this to be explained in the next issue, but it doesn't feel like a misdirect, especially as Ovan is on issue #3's cover (it's also worth noting that this character works in the same shipbuilding company Han's father did).

What role Ovan will play in Han story and what leads to him joining the Rebellion remains to be seen, but this is certainly an intriguing decision on Lucasfilm's part. This also lines up with what Solo writer Jon Kasdan said back in 2018 when he suggested on social media that Han ran away, and that his father is still alive somewhere.

Really with all the ridiculous names in Star Wars why did they feel the need to give a reason for such a simple and cool name

Skywalker is just an every day name but Solo is too goofy to be real

Glad we got the answer that nobody asked for.

@SirDuckAlot - The Disney SW has been consistent in giving things nobody asked for.

@lawndart - Well I mean, why should they give things people ask for? Too easy.

@SirDuckAlot - I'm not totally convinced we won't get that going forward either, getting something we didn't want or ask for. It seems like Trek and Star Wars have their head in the sand mostly on what the fans want. Every time they seem to right the ship you hear something silly like 2 seasons of Obi Wan. Maybe get one season right first.

But who's his grandfather? Who was his favorite teacher? Who was his first doctor? Who was his first crush? So many unanswered questions

Should get the actor back for an appearance in something.

Time to recast the original trio

Get Carrie’s daughter or Millie Bobby Brown depending on the age

Get Sebastian Stan

@dracula - I hope the simply leave the past alone and write new stories with new characters that are actually well developed with time being afforded to make the audience care. The only SW movie I’ve enjoyed for many years was Rogue 1.

It should have been Palpatine! Then Ben Solo would have been his own diad!

In Disney Canon? So... in canon?

@Razorface1 - There is Lucas SW and then Corporate Disneyfied SW. Not the same canon at all. Take the Kenobi show as an example, in Lucas SW Vader and Obi fought on Mustafar as the Master and Apprentice and then met again many years later after Vader was a Master Sith, but Corporate SW Disney is adding scenes like this fight not for story reasons or to expand the universe but for content on a streaming service to keep investors investing and people renewing their subscriptions.
