Marvel Comics recently launched Han Solo & Chewbacca, a series set between the events of Solo: A Star Wars Story and A New Hope. Expanding on their dynamic, the latest issue just dropped a major reveal after the beloved smuggler was seemingly reunited with his long-absent father.

In the Expanded Universe canon, Han's mother and father were called Jaina and Jonash Solo, both of whom disappeared when he was just seven years old. We've never had a significant mention of the hero's parents in the official Disney canon, though the 2018 movie established that Han was an orphan who didn't even have a surname until "Solo" was given to him by an Imperial officer.

However, during a conversation with a newfound ally in the pages of Han Solo & Chewbacca, Han mentions in passing that his dad was called "Ovan" and the older gentleman - who looks a little like the late Sean Connery - clearly believes the smuggler is his son, We're expecting this to be explained in the next issue, but it doesn't feel like a misdirect, especially as Ovan is on issue #3's cover (it's also worth noting that this character works in the same shipbuilding company Han's father did).

What role Ovan will play in Han story and what leads to him joining the Rebellion remains to be seen, but this is certainly an intriguing decision on Lucasfilm's part. This also lines up with what Solo writer Jon Kasdan said back in 2018 when he suggested on social media that Han ran away, and that his father is still alive somewhere.
