Last night, the final trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released and it's fair to say that it was nothing short of incredible. There were lots of big reveals in the new footage which we'll delve into a little later today but what about the many questions this sneak peek has left us with? There are an awful lot of them, especially as this trailer points to a lot of really shocking twists and turns.

Below, we've rounded up the five biggest questions raised by the footage and attempt to answer those by looking at past rumours, speculation, and the evidence on offer. Going into The Last Jedi, these are the questions you'll want to be asking yourselves and this feature is your guide to the biggest ones raised here so be sure to keep reading to share your theories and find some of ours as well.

5. Are We Getting The Franchise's First Flashback?

Rey's Force Vision in The Force Awakens offered a glimpse of the past but the franchise has never featured an actual flashback. However, with the past of Supreme Leader Snoke such a mystery and so many questions surrounding the destruction of Luke's Jedi temple, Star Wars is going to need some! If this trailer for The Last Jedi is any indication, we're getting them for the first time this December as we get what appears to be a glimpse of what happened after Ben Solo took a turn to the Dark Side.

Luke survived and was buried in rubble and can be seen here watching a Jedi temple burn to the ground. It's feasible this is set in the present and we're just being made to think it's a flashback but some big plot holes are clearly going to be filled with this movie and that's got to include what led to Luke going into hiding and the story of how Ben Solo became Kylo Ren.

4. Why Exactly Is Rey So Powerful?

The Force Awakens made it clear that Rey is powerful but this trailer for The Last Jedi emphasises that in a big way. She is, in fact, so strong that it frightens Luke and we're now left wondering what it is that makes her so strong. You have to believe that the identity of her parents could have something to do with this but if Luke is referring to Kylo Ren when he talks about only ever seeing someone this powerful once before, does that pretty much confirm she's a Skywalker?

A popular fan theory is that she's Obi-Wan's daughter or granddaughter but despite being very formidable, he wasn't a particularly remarkable Jedi so that doesn't really explain how she could be so strong. That takes us back to the theory that she's somehow related to the Emperor but regardless of Rey's parentage, it's clear she's being established as a force (no pun intended) to be reckoned with who is either going to resurrect or condemn the Jedi once and for all.

3. Is Kylo Ren Going To Murder His Own Mother?

As you'll no doubt already know, Carrie Fisher died suddenly just under a year ago. While she'd finished shooting her role in The Last Jedi by that point, it obviously means we won't see Leia play any sort of role in Star Wars Episode IX and so this movie needs to finish her story prematurely. Will that involve her death at the hands of Kylo Ren? While this trailer may make it look this way, I have another theory.

I think the villain backs out of blowing up the ship his mother is on but it still ends up being destroyed by Supreme Leader Snoke, something which could turn him against his Master the same way Darth Vader turned on The Emperor after he attempted to kill Luke. That would be an interesting twist and while it's hard to imagine Kylo being redeemed after he slaughtered Han in The Force Awakens, stranger things have happened in this storied franchise and it could explain why he later destroys his helmet.

2. What Does Supreme Leader Snoke Want With Rey?

This trailer for The Last Jedi provides our first look at Supreme Leader Snoke in the flesh and he appears to be spending his time torturing Rey. While it's entirely possible that his voiceover isn't matching what we see on screen, it looks like he's trying to convince the youngster to turn to the Dark Side. If she's more powerful than Kylo, that makes a lot of sense as we saw The Emperor try to do the same thing with Luke when he realised he could get an apprentice more able than the badly damaged Anakin Skywalker.

Kylo failed Snoke when The First Order's Starkiller base was destroyed and if you've been reading Marvel's Star Wars comic books, you'll know that the Death Star's destruction was the beginning of the end for the relationship between Palpatine and Vader. That being the case here too adds up but will she ultimately give in to her darker impulses and join this mysterious big bad?

1. Is Rey Turning To The Dark Side?

If this trailer is any indication, yes! Chances are we're being misled, though, and Rey will remain the hero but it looks like an alliance of sorts between her and Kylo could be forming. Is she just playing along to earn his trust and get close to Supreme Leader Snoke so she can attempt to take him out or has something happened to Luke and these two have put their differences aside to battle that big bad in Episode IX?

It's hard to say for sure but that would certainly take things in an unexpected direction and leaves the door to a new apprentice appearing. Bear in mind that we don't know for sure that Snoke is a Sith so the entire Knights of Ren could be by his side and it just so happens we've only spent time with the former Ben Solo so far. We'll have to wait and see, although it is now clear that The Last Jedi will feature plenty of massive twists and turns!

How many questions did the trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi leave you with? Do you have any theories in regards to the queries we've raised here? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Rey being the “oh her power level is just so strong she amazes Luke Skywalker is pandering almost. It’s like give her every trope of a unbeatable character just because. Like no... you gotta put in work. She already beat up Kylo Ren aka emo ren, she’s gonna have to lose or be humbled in this film because if she ends up winning again nobody will give a shit about episode 9. She has no redeeming story to overcome if she wins.

@Invasion96 - that makes no sense. people will give a shit even if she wins. yeah, seeing her get her ass kicked would be powerful, but it's not the only route they could take to move us.
