A newly revealed behind-the-scenes photo from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has offered a first look at The Eye of Webbish Bog, a creature cut from that opening sequence with Kylo Ren on Mustafar...

After Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow walked away from Star Wars Episode IX due to "creative differences" with Lucasfilm, the movie underwent significant changes courtesy of filmmaker J.J. Abrams and writer Chris Terrio. Those saw Duel of the Fates become The Rise of Skywalker, but the Skywalker Saga finale is widely considered a disappointment.

One big moment we know ended up on the cutting room floor was a meeting between Kylo Ren and The Eye of Webbish Bog, though it wasn't a Trevorrow idea (meaning this might not have been a huge loss).

Regardless, the mysterious creature called Mustafar home and had been tasked with protecting Darth Vader's Wayfinder. Relatively little is known about the monster or how it factors into the wider Sith mythology, but it once looked set to be a big part of the story Abrams was telling.

Now, we have a first look at how it would have appeared on screen thanks to a newly surfaced behind-the-scenes image. While The Eye of Webbish Bog has been featured in Marvel Comics stories, it's apparent we might have missed out when it came to not seeing this...thing...in live-action.

Kylo Ren's exchange with it was actually shot, though, with the movie's creature and special make-up effects creative supervisor, Neal Scanlan, previously confirming it "was a fully practical character shot in a location, and it is amazing."

As for why it was cut, he'd later add that, "I think it maybe was too lengthy an explanation for something that [Abrams] was able to explain in the movie much quicker, eventually."

The Rise of Skywalker never stopped to catch its breath, so we're not surprised that The Eye of Webbish Bog was left on the cutting room floor. Disney and Lucasfilm have never released that deleted scene, though you can take a closer look at the mysterious Sith being in the Tweet below.

if you think I will be excited for any cut content or any Behind the Scenes content from this film, you are pretty wrong. I saw this film once, and I think that was enough.

@BlackStar25 - I find it to be by far the best Star Wars content Disney has produced. Better than Mandelorian even. It’s a shame that it’s not getting more viewers. I guess member berries and bad writing can trump the best writing and acting that the Star Wars universe has ever featured.
