The first teaser trailer for Lionsgate's upcoming prequel to The Hunger Games quadrilogy is now online, and it promises to "reveal who is a songbird, and who is a snake." Considering this story focuses on Coriolanus Snow before he became the tyrannical ruler of Panem, the answer should be fairly obvious!

The "reveal" video doesn't actually contain any footage from the movie (as far as we know, cameras haven't even started rolling yet), but it does give us a look at the title logo via an animated sequence featuring a golden mockingjay battling a snake on a tree as the branches turn to ice.

Tom Blythe will play the young Snow, while Rachel Zegler was recently cast as Lucy Gray Baird.

Check out the teaser below along with a new synopsis, and let us know what you think in the comments.

"Return to The Hunger Games, the landmark film franchise that has earned over $3 billion globally, with Lionsgate’s adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ #1 New York Times Bestseller The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) is the last hope for his fading lineage, a once-proud family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, the young Snow is alarmed when he is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), the girl tribute from impoverished District 12. But, after Lucy Gray commands all of Panem’s attention by defiantly singing during the reaping ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor. Uniting their instincts for showmanship and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy Gray’s race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird, and who is a snake."

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is set to hit theaters on November 17, 2023.

Ok so it's a signing contest between some songbirds and a ragtag quartet of snakes.
The songbirds are the shoo ins but the snakes have what it takes-- if they can learn to get along, first.

Am I close?

Is anyone else getting tired of teasers that are just text and some basic cgi slowly panning, covered in generic elemental effects... and absolutely no footage from the thing advertised?

Talk about the most pointless way to announce something. That didn't need to be a minute and a half. How bored must those cgi artists been? Lol

Why tho ? Also Rachel Zegler seems like a lovely girl and is really beautiful, but has absolutely ZERO charisma whatsoever. West Side Story was carried by everyone around her except herself. I’m not sure why Hollywood keeps casting actors like her and putting them in franchises when the box office draw isn’t there 🤔

@MisterDoctor217 - fwiw she’s not the lead. She’s the main female character but as someone else suggested this is very much a villain origin story for President Snow.

@Waddles -

Yeah hopefully it does reveal what they see in her, because so far I don’t see it.
And yeah DeBose did overshadow most of the people on that movie, I agree.

It’s just it kinda bums me out that there’s no more actos who have that natural gravitas and charisma like the A-listers of old, like Will Smith, Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise, etc. I know these guys are older now but they started out young and even then you could see what Hollywood saw in them.

Yeah I get it but still, you need someone like Jennifer Lawrence to draw you in, but idk what’s going on lately that these young actors now don’t have the same pull as the early 2010s actors did.

not sure why this is happening but i would watch only for one scene with a character named Titus Fenton who went full cannibal in the previous game. and they had to rig the arena to make him loose because the crowd was too disturbed by his actions.
